Period 3 Blog #6

Your comment post should be at least 270 words this week due Thursday by 11:59 pm and you will be responsible for responding (respectfully) to one of your classmates in at least a one paragraph reply entries by Sunday at 11:59 pm.

Use the picture as inspiration to answer the following questions

-How would you design your ideal school building?

-What would the classrooms, common areas and outdoor spaces look like? What kinds of resources would you provide? How would your design promote communication and collaboration, stimulate creativity, foster well-being and maximize learning potential for everyone?

  1. My ideal school building would classrooms that are more like high tech because I think students around this point are more used to it. The classrooms would be large so everyone can have more space, I think that every student would get a chromebook or like Ipad so its more easier to do their work. Also, I would want students to have more comfortable chairs and desks so everyone can feel comfortable. For the teachers they would either have the option to use the white or chalk board, or projectors. I would want the school to be two stories and students will have the option to use the elevator or escalators. There will be separate classrooms for students that would need extra help and teachers that are so helpful so students would feel more safe. For the library, I would switch the books to like just tablets so anyone can be able to search up to any type of book and if they need to sign a tablet out, they would have to return it the next week. Also, I would have a much like bigger coffee shop so if anytime during the day anyone gets hungry, they can just get a snack. Also, I would put in comfortable couches, chairs, and a big Tv for students to feel comfortable during study hall or just to chill. I will make sure all bathroom are big enough for enough girls to go, with a large mirror in there and for all bathrooms to be clean everyday. For gyms, I would want all freshmen, sophomore, juniors, and seniors to have their own. I will also want the gym and locker rooms to be big so everyone could get their own locker and be able to leave their gym stuff in there. I would want the hallways to have more space and larger and nicer lockers that will just let you scan your ID card and it will open up so it can be easier and faster. For outside, every sport will get their own space and like a nicer place. Lastly, for the cafeteria, Everything will be much larger and better food. Also there will be sections for everything for like snacks, food, drinks and candy.

  2. If I was designing a school there would be no wasted space. I would not make the layout of the building very spread out instead compact it closer together , because it’s inconvenient to the students and teachers aswell, all the classrooms would be filled with 2 person tables with comfortable chairs instead of desks. Also each class room would have a set amount of ipads or laptops for students, and the classrooms will be more high tech. It creates more interaction between students and they could help fellow classmates if they do not understand something. This is an upgrade to the standard crappy desks and chairs that hurt your back. Also during nice days some classes would be able to go outdoors and we’d have an outdoor class area where there are benches and tables. Also instead of the subject being in the same hallway, it will go by grade level/ track class levels so kids would not have to go back and forth across the school. Then less time would be wasted in between classes. All honors kids would be in one section, all A track and B track kids will take up another section. And all the not so smart kids would be in the last section of the school. The classrooms will not be as cramped either and they will be equally sized according to subject. It is not fair for some class rooms to be a lot bigger compared to teachers who do not have too much room. That is the way my school would be set up if I had the choice to do so.

  3. If i was to design my own school, it would be how I felt when I was in school, for example if the chairs were hard, I would get soft comfortable chairs, everything that I hated when I was in school I would make it better so student would want to go to school and learn. The classrooms would be big enough so all the students have space and the teachers can have space. There would be better technology. Every student would get a chromebook to keep throughout the year but they would be responsible for it. All assignments would be on computer and sent to their teacher. Note taking would have to be written because there is a higher chance of remembering when you write it down There would be tables for 2 people so they can sit with someone and they would be able to ask them for help if they do not get something. The chairs would be comfortable rolling chairs. For the library there would still be sections for books for the kids that prefer books than online/ technology. There would be Kindles so it would be just for reading and they won’t be able to do anything bad. There would be flat screen tvs so the students would know what is up for the day & whys coming up. The communications would be that they would have to interact more with a student & do a weekly journal page to see how they met someone new that day or week. For gym class they would be able to have a group of what they want as long as there are teachers & they are all working together.

    1. I think every student getting a chromebook for their work is a great idea. Also the library having both books and kindles is great because some people like actual books and others like tablets. Making students communicate with others is an amazing idea because many people will go through school with little to no friends.

  4. My ideal school would look like a normal school building. The school would be more technology based though. Every student can either get a chromebook from the school or bring their own. Classrooms would bigger than they are now so they’re not as cramped. Also desks would be more comfortable to sit at.The chairs wouldn’t be connected to them they would have cushion and be able to move. The school building would be large and there would be multiple areas where you can eat and hang out whether it be inside or outside. Since the school will be very technology based it would be easier to get creative since you have internet access all the time. To make sure everyone is learning properly the school will make sure the students like their teachers and are teached in the way they understand. Also so the students can relax their brains from classes everyone will get a free period. If you want to leave the school for your lunch or free period it is allowed as long as you come back and make it back in time. The school would still have lockers and so everyone actually has time to go to them time for switching between classes will be longer. My ideal school isn't that different from what it is now but some changes to make the experience better.

  5. My ideal school would be pretty much what we have now. Just a few changes. I play volleyball and putting up and taking down the two nets we have is annoying and too much work. So having a separate gym designated just for volleyball would be apart of my ideal school. We could just keep the nets up so we don’t waste time adjusting them. The bathrooms wouldn’t be locked 24/7. If you have to go to the bathroom and it’s locked it gets annoying because you then have to walk across the school just to go to another bathroom that’s locked. So I think having unlocked bathrooms and unlocked locker rooms would be convenient for all students. Classrooms and outside areas would be about the same. There isn’t really anything that needs to be changed with the outside areas. Classrooms, although, could be adjusted to be more spacious. I would also put in the desks where you can put stuff inside of them attached to cushioned chairs. We need more desk space with some of the books we have. I would provide two books for the subjects so you can leave one home and keep on at school (even though some teachers already do that.) Other resources I would provide would be our own set of computers. Some teachers have to share the laptop cart. I think it would be much easier if each classroom had one. Another thing that I would change is being able to put on the heater whenever you want. The school puts the heat on in the middle of November. Some days are very cold before that and makes us want to turn on the heat. Some kids daze off during lessons, so I think having some of this stuff would really benefit the way we learn.

    1. i like your idea about keeping the bathrooms unlocked. i am always roaming the school for a unlocked bathroom. The Computer part would be convenient as well cause sometimes we be getting the chromebooks and they are already dead. the extra gym idea for the nets would be cool and helpful for the players.

If i designed a school, i would make it all glass. It would lay over the water. I love being by the water and looking over the water in every season. I feel like school classrooms are so stressful. My theory is being by the water is relaxing and a nice place to be at. When ever i'm not in a good mood i will sit by the water and relax. I think if the class room was all glass it would be a nice pretty site. I would not mind going to school everyday if i got to see a sig like that instead of seeing a bunch of painted bricks. Each class rooms would have full size desk with a computer and computer chair. I would have the school days either 8-2 or 3-9. The lunch room would be outside in a heated or cooled canopy. Gym would be like the old days. A playground with a basketball court with an additional skate park. I would design the school with 4 stories. A elevator to each story. I would make the walk in between class ten minutes instead of 4-5. All the assignments would be online so you wouldn't have to carry books around. I hate carrying my books around so i really don't. I also lose most of my assignments so if i don't have to carry them around i won't loose them. However this would cost a lot of money to build so it would most likely never happen. At Least for a high school. Education would be so much easier if this happens.

    1. I think that would be super pretty, although pretty dangerous. Your theory is so true, I love being by the water and listening to the small waves crash. I really like your school idea because 10 minutes in between each period sounds like a good amount of time. Along with the elevators because people like me are lazy. Online assignments are convenient, too. I hate carrying around big books and having to cover them.
