Your comment post should be at least 350 words this week due Tuesday by 11:59 pm
TIME TRAVEL TO THE 20’S
Your family just moved into a creepy old mansion. One day, while you’re trying to do your Great Gatsby reading for school you hear music from down the hall. You put your copy of Gatsby into your jacket pocket and go to investigate the sound. You find a room at the end of the hall with an hourglass on the door and the old-timey music sounds like it’s coming from behind the door.
When you open the door, you step through a bright light and suddenly everything is different. The door that you just stepped through is gone and there’s a calendar on the wall that says that the year is 1924. You can’t go back home through the door and your only choice is to go outside and build a new life. Write a story about the new kind of life that you’ll have to live.
Questions to consider: How will you dress, can you get a job/what kind of job would you get, what kind of car will you drive, will you get married and have a family, what will you do for fun?
Your story must include details about life in the 1920’s based on what you’ve learned about the time period. Must be a minimum of 4-5 paragraphs. No comment on a classmates post is required.

  1. As soon as I walk through that door I am faking out on how I can’t get back home ,but I have to claim myself and start somewhere. I would find a place where I can sleep and get a job as soon as I wake up. Since I know what is going to happen in the future I am going to save my money up until the 30’s ,so I have something to fall back on.
I would go to new york and go get a job in the factories. I would probably get rid of my clothes since I would not fit in and stand out in front of everyone.I would not really party since most people that weren’t rich didn’t party but only drank. I would work my way up of the working ladder and during the time people’s wages got boosted from the rich people spending everything.
As soon as I made enough money I would look for a wife to be with. Or I could meet someone before that. Also during that time people got a lot of stuff and said that they would pay later ,but never did. I wouldn’t do that since all of the money that owed back is going to get piled up and it would be so much money that I couldn’t pay back. I would have kids and start a family. I would actually change my name since back in the day people hated everyone that was an immigrant or not white.
For fun I would probably go to the parties that the 20’s were all about . I would drink but only when I am old enough and when I am old enough I would in the 1930’s and then the great depressions would start and everything would go bad and I would have to struggle with my family and survive.

  2. If time should go back to 1924 and I can’t go back to the right time zone. First of all, I’ll definitely try to a just to the society. However, In the
1920s it was kind of old fashion and a depressed time. I’ll make my own clothes and if I do have a family.I’ll also make their clothes too. I would find myself a nursing job, that i can be independent and take care of my family. Beside, If the children can’t go to school. When I’m home from work. I’ll teach them myself. I’ll make sure that my household is well structured, so the children can see what we’re going through to be a better example of what I am. I’m not sure if I’ll be driving a car but the car would be very handy, so that I can get to work on time. I’ll try making the children have fun on the weekend by going to the park and visiting other family members. There’s a lot of things I’ll to make myself comfortable.

Next thing I would do is buy a luxurious car and a mansion. I would probably work as a MAFIA and sell illegal things to other people like alcohol. I will also have a family and provide stuff for them. I would drink alcohol even though it’s prohibited.

  4. I just walked in a world where it took me back to the past. I’m obviously freaking out wondering how Im going to go back, but as I'm looking around there is no way back. Meaning im going to have to start a new life here. I'm starting to see people with strange clothes I started to figure out the year i was in and i was in the 1920s. People were living in cities some were living in farms.
The strange clothes that the women were wearing were skirts and trousers. Men were wearing athletic clothing. They were also wearing suits. The car people starting using were fords. I went to the nearest building in urgency to look for a new job.
They told me that the only job available was nursing and they were looking for someone across the street for telephone operators. I was torn between the two, but since I was there I decided to work for nursing. I started right away and I found this abandoned nice home for me to stay at. Months later i met someone who helped me get all my stuff like new clothes food and gave me a tour around the town. He told me that people in this generation mostly like partying and spending a lot of money.
The 1920s was a time of profound change. So significant was this change that the decade is commonly called the 'Roaring Twenties.’ He started telling me more information about this year since I told him my story of how I got stuck her. He said the result of farmers was a severe agricultural depression. During the 1920s more than 600,000 farmers went bankrupt. The worst conditions for farmers were in the South, where farming was the main industry.
Few farms had electricity or running water and wages were very low. The popular sports in that year were basketball and football and baseball was very popular in North Carolina.

  5. The 1920's were very ruff times for pretty much everyone. When I walked through that door I knew that this new life that I was beginning here wasn't going to be easy. I was extremely scared at first, but I knew i had no choice but to go look for a job. I had gotten a job as a news paper writer. After finally receiving my first pay check I went out to go by some clothes.
I soon came to realize that I was gonna to have to make my own clothes since people during this time were very independent. It took me a while to do so, but I did it. After a while of working I met somebody who helped make everything a lot easier. He ended up helping pay for our apartment, we bought a band new ford model a for him to take to work, and eventually our family. Since we know have two kids I am a stay at home mom and my husband works long hours at the local steel mill. Sometimes he doesn't come home for a couple of days, but this is just do to the harsh working conditions they had back then. Me and the kids stayed home and took care of the farm. This was difficult due to the fact that we had very poor soil and very little to no money to afford anything to help maintain the crops. Also, they were very few farms and even houses throughout the states that had any running water. People had afford to help us, but since men took pride in being able to support there own families we had to turn them down. When me and the kids weren't taking care of the farm we would put some music on, if we had it, over the radio and start dancing. Sometimes if we were lucky enough we would be able to listen to the news and some sports such as basketball or baseball.

  6. The 1920s were very different back then from today. I don't know if I would be able to adjust living in that time period. Today most people are always stuck in their phones on social media. Back then things were hard for people. It was also a lot harder to make money back then as well then it is today. If I were to live in the 1920s tho, I think I would dress casually. I don't know what kind of job I would have because there weren't many back then that I'm familiar with. I'd hopefully drive a muscle car back then because back then cares were really cool and they don't make them like they used too. I don't think I'd wanna he married back then. For fun I would definitely play sports.

  7. If i were to travel in time to the 1920’s I would try to adapt as fast as possible especially if i can't go back to my time. Clearly times are going to be a lot different so it might take a strong pull on me at first. If i can't go back i might spend the first couple of hours/days figuring out if i really can't make it back, after it hits me the fun starts in the 20’s.
First things first i know what i have to avoid, flappers and the snotty rich people, like gatsby and everyone who lives on his side of egg harbor. I would then follow it up by getting a job and maybe depending how old i am probably try and start a family. I would drive any car possible that i could afford, then ill move out.
As soon as i have enough money and stable job and life ill try to get married, start a life, maybe if it's going good even have some kids! Me and my wife would live a great life together, we would both be working a good enough job to support a child so we can support a family. Our neighbours will be the nicest and sweetest people you will ever meet, so will the neighborhood.
Lastly in the 20’s my life would be stable and set with a good job and wife by 30, i feel back then it was not easier but not as hard as it is now to be “set” in your life.

  8. Dressing with the fancy dresses, wearing fluffy thing around me lots of necklaces it is uncomfortable. Either way I see other people doing the same thing to. I wonder how it will be dressing the other way what people will say if they going to see you as a nobody or they will accept me. Can I get a job I don't know but this time I will and I will support my family and have fun and not be hungry. The car is nothing because me like to ride bikes. Either way I am not to materialistic so I pick something simple not to show off for people.Having a beautiful family with four beautiful children. My wife is so friendly and wise. I do everything to make her and my children happy. All I do is with my family. My friends they got their own life and I to. We play and do challenge to each other. No matter what we do we always share time and take care each one of ous.

  9. When I step through the door I notice that everything is different. The people and my surroundings look like I stepped into my history book. I knew I wasn't in my own time. I tried to step back into the door I came but it just led a closet. I am freaking out because there is no way to return home. I am stuck. Now I had to figure out what I was going to do next.
The first thing I had to do was find clothes to fit in. I had some money on me which thankfully I could use to buy some clothes. I didn't buy anything to fancy so I would not stand out. I didn't want to bring attention to myself. I decided to rent a room with what money I had left. It wasn't great. Very basic with only one room. I found a job in a shoe repair shop. Not making much but enough to survive.
As time goes by and I make friends. We go to a lot of night clubs since that was a thing the people in the 20's like to do. I wouldn't have a car because there were expensive. I think life in the 20's would be a good life. Good at least to the great depression where I would really have to learn how to survive.

That one step through the bright blinding light changed the years from the 2000s to the 1920s. I had to find a new way of living. It wasn’t easy but i had to manage. Not everything is given to you, i learned the true meaning of working for what you want. I walked into a new way of life. I didn't know where to start or even how to react to getting brought back into the 1920s. It is a whole other world from the 2000s to the 1900s. From the housing to the jobs the the smell of the atmosphere. It was time to start a new lifestyle before it was to late.
In this situation i would start off with finding a job. That is the most important thing to do because if you had no money you are not getting anywhere in the city. I had to get money to finally start off a new life and be able to get a house and food. I walked down the densely packed streets to find a job that can start me off to a well paved trail.
I found a job on the docks loading the ships with large sacks of food and barrels with foods. It was a high labor job but i thought it would keep me in shape and it would give me money in my pocket. From roling the barrels to having to pick them up was not easy but it was money in my pocket. Long day at work paid off i the end because after a couple weeks of straight working on the docks and sleeping on news papers get mew a small apartment. It was down the road from the docks and it was cheap for the time.
While i was walking to work one morning i bumped into this young female that gave me have address to see her. She was young like me but she was not as far into life as i was yet. She was very nice to me and she gave me a thought of letting her live with me to lower the price i have to pay and also we could make it easy to maintain a steady payment so we won't be shot on money.
None of the really matter because i married her a few days from meeting her because then i have her take care of the house and i could work. While i would work she would clean and do my laundry. Life in the 1900s was not so bad if you worked hard and wanted to succeed.

  11. The enviroment in the 1920's was different then know. What people wear now is something you wouldnt get caught wearing. The way i would dress is the usual way. The button down with overall things. There is also a lot of jobs that are reguarding ages. I would like to be a boxer. They make a lot of money. So that would be fun. I would drive a model-T. I would not get married cause you would have to share the money and im selfish. I would have fun all the time.

  12. So i walk through the door and stepped into a different time period and it says its 1924 ima flip out in a good way and bad way because i'm gonna be like i just time traveled this is like physically impossible then i'm gonna freak out because i can't go back. And i won't be able to see my family or friends any more then i'm gonna have a long time to process that this is actually happening. But once i accept im probably going to tell a lot of people that i came from 2018 and there gonna think im crazy but i will have my phone with me i have a iphone 8 and i will show them then they will believe me. And i will mass produce my phone start the company apple in 1924 become the youngest billionaire ever and just invent all the stuff that i already now that was invented in 2018 and i will probably become the first ever trillionaire because im gonna be the owner of every big company. And i will be set for the rest of my life and get every hot model during that time period and generations of my family will be set with so much money.

  13. If i lived in the 1920’s I know i would want to be a flapper and that I would be treated equally as everyone. I would live in West Egg in a huge house with my husband and my two children and my car would be a cadillac. When i’m not working i’d be home taking care of my girls and cleaning and also making dinner for the family. I would want to go out once in a while when i’m not working and go out with my girlfriends for drinks and dance and then come home to my wonderful family.
