The Legend of the Loch Ness Monster

The most famous mystery about Loch Ness surrounds the phenomenon of an enormous creature that is believed to live in the water – known universally as the Loch Ness Monster, or ‘Nessie’ as she’s affectionately known.
The first recorded sighting of the monster was in 565 AD, when it was said to have snatched up and eaten a local farmer, before being forced back into the waters by St Columba.
Over the years, rumours spread far and wide about ‘strange events’ at Loch Ness. Some believe that ancient Scottish myths about water creatures, like Kelpies and the Each Uisge (meaning ‘water horse’), contributed to the notion of a creature living in the depths of Loch Ness.
The excitement over the monster reached a fever pitch when an actor, film director, and big-game hunter were hired to track down the beast. After only a few days at the loch they reported finding the fresh footprints of a large, four-toed animal. They estimated it to be 20 feet long and made plaster casts of the footprints and sent them off to the Natural History Museum in London for analysis. While the world waited for the museum zoologists to return the results, legions of monster hunters descended on Loch Ness, filling the local hotels.
The bubble burst when museum zoologists announced that the footprints were those of a hippopotamus. They had been made with a stuffed hippo foot—the base of an umbrella stand or ashtray. It wasn't clear whether the actor, film directos and hunter hired had been the perpetrators of the hoax or gullible victims. Either way, the incident tainted the image of the Loch Ness Monster and discouraged serious investigation of the phenomenon. For the next three decades, most scientists scornfully dismissed reports of strange animals in the loch.
In 1933, construction began on a major road that runs along the north shore of the Loch. The work involved considerable drilling and blasting and it is believed that the disruption forced the monster from the depths and into the open. Around this time, there were numerous independent sightings and, in 1934, London surgeon R. K. Wilson managed to take a photograph that appeared to show a slender head and neck rising above the surface of the water. Nessie hit the headlines and has remained the topic of fierce debate ever since.
In the 1960s, the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau conducted a ten-year observational survey – recording an average of 20 sightings per year. And, by the end of the decade, mini-submarines were being used for the first time to explore the depths of the Loch using sophisticated sonar equipment. New public interest was generated in the mid 1970s when underwater photographs of what appeared to be a ‘flipper’ were made public.
To this day, there is no conclusive proof to suggest that the monster is a reality. However, many respectable and responsible observers have been utterly convinced they have seen a huge creature in the water.

Prehistoric animal? Elaborate hoax? Seismic activity? A simple trick of the light? It’s even been said that the whole mystery could be explained by the presence of circus elephants in the area in the 1930s.

-Based on the evidence, do you believe in the loch ness monster or do you think there is a more rational explanation for the whole thing? Why or why not?
-Based on the evidence we have so far in To Kill a Mockingbird do you believe all the wild stories about Boo Radley? Is he really a 6 ½ foot tall monster who eats raw squirrels and animals? Or do you think he will turn out to be a regular person? Why or why not?
-How do you think the crazy stories surrounding both the Loch Ness Monster and Boo Radley are similar? How are they different?

  1. No I don’t believe in the Loch Neck Monster. It looks like a Dinosaur. And we all know dinosaurs have been extinct for a while now. And with all of the technology we have today we should be able to find out if its real or not. Were in the year 2018 with 3D printers so I don't think it will be a problem to find out if its real. And also we discovered the titanic in the middle of the ocean and it should be so much easier to find a whole species. That is why is don't believe in the Loch neck Monster.

No I don't think the stories about Boo Radley are real. Because nobody eats raw squirrels or eat squirrels at all you would get sick. And yes I know this is just a story but who would eat raw animals like squirrels. And yes I think h will turn out to be a regular person. I think he will come out of his shell and make friend. And tell everyone that believes his house is haunted that its not. And if he make friends he will fit right in with the kids in his neighborhood. That is what I think about Boo Radley.

How the crazy stories surrounding the Loch Neck Monster and Boo Radley are similar. Here are some of the similarities. One similarity is everyone is scared of hem. If someone saw the Loch Neck Monster he would probably get scared and run away. And for Boo Radley the kids in his neighborhood don't want to walk by there house because they think it's haunted. Another similarity is for all the kids in Boo Radleys neighborhood its a dare to go up to and touch Boo Radley's house. And for the Loch Neck Monster im sure if people saw it they would dare there friends to jump in. And those are some similarities between the Loch Neck Monster and Boo Radley.

  3. I do not believe that there is a Loch ness monster because we would have found it by now. Our tech is so updated now there's no way.I don't think that Boo Radley is the bad guy hes made out to be. I think yeah he could be 6 foot tall but he doesn't eat cats. I think he did dumb things as a kid and it followed him and hes scared of the people in his town. The crazy storied about these two are similar because there both false stories. There's no way that Boo Radley is that bad of a guy and the loch ness monster isn't real.

  4. I don’t believe in the loch ness monster because I really don’t think that monsters exist, but I think that there was probably another creature but not big and maybe people saw the animal and were just lying that it was an enormous monster.

I don’t believe the wild stories about Boo Radley that he is 6 ½ foot tall monster who eats raw squirrels and animals. I don’t believe that because he lives in a house and people haven’t seen him eating raw squirrels and have not seen how tall he is because he never goes outside.

I think that the crazy stories surrounding both the loch ness monster and boo radley are similar because people say that they were monsters and things that are not about them. They are different because boo radley lives in a house and the loch ness monster lives in the water.

    1. I agree with Ana because there is no such thing as a loch ness monster because the loch ness monster looks like a dinasour and they were extinct many, many years ago. What do you think? Why?

  6. No i do not believe in the legend of the Loch Ness Monster.
Because if there's an animal that big living in a lake for that long and nobody can prove that it exists then I have no reason to believe in it at all.
For instance all of the sitting have been proven to be fake. How would it survive for that long without anything to eat because the lake is dead there's not much life in it from what i have read adout Loch Ness.

Old tree fall down all the time and they float on the lake so someone could have seen one of them old trees and mistaking it for the The Loch Ness Monster.

It could have been a shadow on the water too or even the wake from a boat that when by ealyer before would look like an animal if the sunlight hit it the right way.

If the monster was real it would have been captured on someone iPhone or Android device alrady come on now everyone has a phone and there is too many people to not see it already.

And as far as i know that has not happened yet. From 565 AD to the year 2018 were we have cell phones with cameras to record and take pictures and still nothing to show that the loch Ness monster is a real thing smh.

Personally i think it's all a fake with all the technology that we have today. we can put a man on the moon and bring him back home to his family on earth.

we can land on mars with all that we need to go and explore the red planet and control it all from right here on earth.

And we have gone way beyond that into deep outa space with Cassini.

The Cassini–Huygens mission, commonly called Cassini, was a collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Italian Space Agency to send a probe to study the planet Saturn and its system, including its rings and natural satellites and Cassini did what was ask of it and much much more too and is still going on million and million of miles away from earth she still wakes up and call home.

So if we can do all of that.
Including finding oil and gas under the ocean. but not a mo

I do not believe in the loch ness monster because the loch ness monster looks like a dinosaur and we all know that dinosaurs have been extinct for years. If there was a real monster in the water then there would be so many cops there trying to catch it and kill it. They say that this monster “Nessie” has killed a local farmer but for all we know he could have been going fishing and his boat flipped and he drowned. Do you believe in the loch ness monster? Why or why not?
I think that since Boo Radleys family has a weird past he is classified as weird to. But since they have never seen him the kids are just making predictions of what he looks like. Since his house is spooky he is classified “ spooky” too. I feel like that Boo Radley is going to be an ordinary guy and not be a harm to anyone. What do you think? Why?
The similarities between the loch ness monster and Boo Radley is that no one has seen them and there both scary and dangerous. The differences is that one is a human and one is some kind of strange animal. What are some similarities and differences you think of the loch ness monster and Boo Radley?

  8. After reading this whole article my statement on if the lockness monster is the same. I still beleive in the lockness monster. No matter what people tell me i will always beleive there is more to the world that we do not know about. I say that the ocean is the biggest thing in the world its more than 50 % of the world and we can not determine every single living things that lives in it. We find new speicies all the time so whos to say that there arent any locknes monsters in the ocean.I personally do not believe the stories about boo radley cause they seem like absurd rumors that got to far. But i feel like anything could be true and he could have done anything they said he did but i dont think he did them. The stories are similar because there all rumors. Theres the rumor that the locknes monster is real or not. And the rumor that boo radley is a creep and a monster. Its all just rumors.

  9. i think monsters don't exist and the loch ness monster was over exaggerated because I don’t believe the stories about Boo Radley that he is over 6 foot tall monster who eats raw squirrels and other animals. I don’t believe that because he lives in a house and people haven’t seen him eating raw squirrels and it has not been seen on how tall he is because he never comes out.
