Student Question | What’s Your Dream Job?
By MICHAEL GONCHAR  MARCH 10, 2016 5:00 AM March 10, 2016 5:00 am

What do you want to be when you grow up? Has your dream job changed as you’ve gotten older? Have you already started investing time and effort to try to make it happen?

In “The New Dream Jobs,” Jenna Wortham writes:

When the National Society of High School Scholars asked 18,000 Americans, ages 15 to 29, to rank their ideal future employers, the results were curious. To nobody’s surprise, Google, Apple and Facebook appeared high on the list, but so did the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency. The Build-A-Bear Workshop was No. 50, just a few spots behind Lockheed Martin and JPMorgan Chase. (The New York Times came in at No. 16.)

However scattershot, the survey offers a glimpse into the ambitions of the millennial generation, which already makes up more than a third of the work force. By 2020, it will make up half. Survey after survey shows that millennials want to work for companies that place a premium on employee welfare, offer flexible scheduling and, above all, bestow a sense of purpose. These priorities are well known and frequently mocked, providing grist for the oft-repeated claim that millennials are lazy, entitled job-hoppers.

But it’s important to remember that this generation was shaped by a recession, an unprecedented crush of student debt and a broad decline in the credibility of all kinds of institutions. Stability is an abstract concept to these young workers, so they instead tend to focus on creating a rich, textured life now, rather than planning for a future obscured by uncertainty.

Students: Read the entire article, then answer the questions below:
— What’s your dream job? Why do you want that job? Do you think you’re well suited for it?

— What qualities are most important to you in your future career? Salary? A sense of purpose? Scheduling flexibility? Feeling challenged? Feeling appreciated? The ability to get ahead? Liking what you do or being good at your job? Anything else?

— What investments are you willing to make now to help you get your dream job eventually?

— What companies would you want to work for? Are you surprised by the National Society of High School Scholars survey rankings? Why?

  1. My dream job is to have my own clothing line shoe line etc. One reason why this is my dream job is so that I could make a lot of money off it and also enjoy what I’m doing. So that I don’t have to work for anyone but myself. For my shoes I would probably name them “daerican” or “duping” I’m not exactly sure but when the time comes I definitely want everything to be just perfect. And I want everyone to really love my creation on what I’m trying to do and sell. It’s all about making your customers happy and most importantly yourself.
When I grown up I want to be a businesswoman. I want to have my own company and work for nobody but myself.
Has my dream job changed as I’ve gotten older? Honestly I would say yes because at one point in life I went through many phases. One I wanted to be a nurse because I had a brother who’s in nursing school and I use to want to be just like him so I could achieve in life. But now I have different fantasies on what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Yes I’ve already started investing time and effort to try and make this happen I’ve put money away and I still have more to come because you could never have too much money there's no way on earth. Because you need money for almost every and anything you do so yes I would say I’m definitely putting in time and effort.
Do I think I’m well suited for the job? Honestly yes I do think I am. If I wasn’t then trust me this wouldn’t be what I wanted to do for the rest of my life if I thought other wise. Why do I want this to be my job? Because I love shopping I love clothes I love to try and match different things together to see what looks right with what. And I think it would help me out a lot on how to dress if I had my own clothing line.
What qualities are most important to me in my carrier? To be honest both is important to me, salary and having a purpose. Reason why salary is the most important is because if your not making any money then theirs no sense of doing it because. You need money to fend for yourself to make sure your straight have a roof overyour head and food in your belly. The purpose of this is to try bring out something different a whole other demeanor in life.
What investments am I trying to make now to help achieve my dream job, is to start saving up by now, so that when the time comes I have money to start my business.
What companies would I like to work for? The whole purpose of trying to start a business Is so that I don’t have to work for a company. So that I don’t have to work for anybody but me myself and I.

  2. Everyone has dream jobs, some people want to be doctors others want to be actors or singers even lawyers and some people have two dream jobs. I am one of those people who have two dreams jobs, my first dream job is being a model and the other is being animator or graphic designer, I myself think those jobs are well suited for me because for the modeling I have the confidence for it and i have experience of modeling from previous years. For the graphic design and animator I have been drawing since two thousand and twelve and I have been practicing not only digitally but also traditionally. The qualities I feel I need to have for my dream jobs are confidence, creativity, honesty, and perseverance. Another quality that I feel that I should have believe in myself but I also feel like that should go for every job even motivation and determination.

The investments I would be willing to make to help me reach my job is my time and money so I can get a good education on what occupation I want to have and achieve. I remember the amount of money paid for acting and modeling classes back then was a lot, I’d keep money saved for photo shoots for my resume and also for other stuff I might need. The companies I would like to work for would be Disney animations or would be for my own animation and cartoon that I would like to create. The cartoon I would plan to make would be about a group of people with unique qualities who try to stop crime but also try to make the people in the world know that no one should be judged by what they look like or how they may seem even if they might have bird wings or the ability to freeze items, so far I have made character designs and bios for this idea I have. Im hoping one day after I graduate I can enroll in a college and make this actual cartoon and comic my very own one day and inspire others.

  3. My dream job is to be a Fashion Business owner, Like Brandy Melville. I want this job because I love fashion, california, and marketing/merchandising. I think once I move out there next summer I will be ready. I am moving across the country to attend a fashion school to help me learn to run a high class business. In less than a year I will be away from my family and everything I have ever known to chase my biggest goal. Growing up my career choices have changed. I first experienced my love for marketing when I took a business class in PA and moved back here to take a senior economics class as a freshman. I never even considered working in business until these classes. I figured why not mix something I love with something else I love and that is how I came to deciding I wanted to go to school for fashion marketing.

Whats most important to me with my career choice is that I will be doing something I love in the place I love. I am going to have to work very hard for what I want to achieve, but I am determined and won’t stop trying until I succeed. I plan to stay in Los Angeles County and work internships when I am not in class. Once I get a degree and I have experiance I will be able to find someone to help me or be partners in a clothing store with me.

My goal is to sell clothes to the entire United States and have a must-have clothing brand that sells beachy so-cal type clothes in stores like pacsun and tilly’s. The investments I am willing to make are paying for a top notch college to learn how to become a successful business owner. I am also putting alot of time into learning about it and planning it out. I am even trying to start a fashion club at school for the college I hope to go to. They offer a scholarship for doing so.

    1. I never knew that about you! You have a great taste in fashion, the clothes you wear are very stylish. I think going to california for school will be amazing, they have great schools out there and are with the trends, unlike bayville. Going to school out of state will probably be the best thing for you, to get away and focus on yourself. I love that you want to do something you’re so passionate about! I have no doubt that you will do great out there and you’re going to love it. California is a very inspirational place.

  4. My Dream Job is to be an immigration lawyer because it has an impact to my life and I want to help others. This is the job I would like to have because I seen my own family struggle and many other immigrants around the world are take advantage because they are not from here. I want to be that person to change that because i honestly don’t think it is fair. When we talk about the salary that is one thing that I am not interested in because I feel like all this world is worried about is money. I just want to have a job that I like and want to do not a boring one because that is not fun at all. I want to protect equal rights that we all have but sadly in this period of life is taken advantage because some people are treated different. I became interested in this when i saw one of my own family members struggle and no one to help them because they are not from here. I feel like it shouldn’t happen because it is not right and I would not like anyone else experience it because it is the worse feeling. I want to help others and make sure they get the rights like everyone else does. Hopefully one day I can do that and make it to the best moment in my life knowing that I at least change someone life. This is one of the jobs that I would like to have I am going try my best to accomplish it because I know I can and will. There is also so much to learn from it and I will get to see different stories each day which will be interesting to listen and help them out. I think at times it can be hard but it is all worth it because in life you have to struggle and that is fine. I would like to have this job and know that at least one person life will get better.

  5. My dream job as a child was to be a vet, but then i realized you had to put animals down. So i was like no thanks. Now my current dream job is to be a pharmacist, i think being in the medical field would be a great job. I want to be a pharmacist because i think being able to help people without like drawing blood, and seeing people die. I think I’d be well suited for this job because going to school for this would be good for me, i would pass all the drug tests and i would never have to worry about bills. Pharmacists make enough money not to struggle. I never want a job where i have to live paycheck to paycheck and struggle all the time. Major qualities that are most important to me about my career is the salary, they make about $106,000 a year, which is awesome. I also think that it is an important job and i would always feel challenged, and always get my stuff done. I want to be able to go to work and not say “i hate this job” every day. If you love your job you’ll never work a day in your life. Most jobs are good with hours, depending on your situation. When you’re in school, you don’t become an actual pharmacist until you get your last degree. But, when going to walgreens or any other pharmacy the person who you pay is a trainie pharmacist, they didn’t get the last degree but they can still work in the pharmaceutical areas. I am willing to take out loans and go to a great school to get the degree to be able to be an actually pharmacist. I honestly want to work at a Walgreens or a Rite Aid, because their are so many of them in Bayville / Tomsriver area. I am not surprised by the rankings because the jobs people enjoy get higher averages than places where people are miserable.

    1. Ever since I was a little, I also wanted to be a veterinary because I love animals. I also agree with you about not wanting to put them down. It is very important to love what you do, especially since one needs to spend most of the day doing the work. I remember my grandmother talking about how she didn't like to go to work at a warehouse picking and packing , earning minimum wages and living pay check to pay check. It looks like you definitely won't be having that problem earning that salary every year.

  6. My dream job is to run a private security organization, I want that job because my dad’s friend has it and he barely has to do anything and makes millions of dollars. I’d settle for any job with a private security because when he started he made 800,000 dollars a year as a sergeant. I think I’ll be well suited for it after I go through the marines and college, I’ll have the knowledge, the experience, and the build. It’s a job where you make your own schedule and make a lot of money and travel the world. I have talked to my dad's friend and he said the only thing he would have done differently is gone to college. That’s all I’m going to do different, my dream jobs pretty out there I’ll probably end up just working for one at a lower level. I only plan on doing that for a few years then become a police officer and retire with that. I’ll make most of my money working private security and then still make a decent amount as a police officer. As a police officer I’ll be challenged and feel important. I will be happy with what I do and I will be protecting people and helping others. I will be able to travel the world and have the money to live the life I want to live. Then I’ll still be able to have a family and not have to work all day everyday, I will be able to treat my family and take them on vacations. Right now I’m in ROTC so I will go in as a higher rank and make more in the marines. I’m surprised by the survey I have never heard anyone say they wanted to work for any of those places. I know they are good jobs that pay well and are fairly easy but require a lot of college. Personally I wouldn't want one of those jobs sitting in an office all day for the rest of my life would drive me insane.

  7. If I could have my dream job, any job in the world. I would want to be a computer coder/engineer. I would like this job because i enjoy working and creating computer software. It’s just what i'm into so i would like to make it my job one day. It just seems like such a good and fun job. A plus of it is that it pays a lot because everyone needs computer specialists nowadays and there is more job opening then there are college graduates. It's a really hard job but it pays off. I also think i would be well suited for this job because at the moment i am going to vocation school for computer science so i have a jump start for college then hopefully get hired. The qualities that i need to have for this job is smart, a well worker, and serious. The salary that i would like is 70 though end a year. That an average wage. The investments i am willing to make to get this job in the future is pay for a good college to get the further education i need to get this job. Also, the purpose of my job is to deal with computer software that other companies don't really know how to handle. That's what we are here for. I would also feel appreciated because i would be the only one knowing what i was doing. Also, i would also rather like what i'm doing as a job rather than be good at it. You can always get better at something but you can't really change if you like it. Lasty, the companies i would work for is something like Microsoft, or Apple. Something that deals with computers because that is the job i truly want when i get older. Also, i am not surprised by colledge survey rankings because they need to be tight on it. They want to accept the best of the best. I agree with it because if you have money but you just want to go just to go that's not fair to the other other people that actually want to get an education. This is what i want as a dream job and further details about it.

    1. I couldn’t do a job like that I’d lose my mind sitting in an office for eight hours a day typing away on a computer. Sitting in school for 17,000 hours of my life is enough for me I’d rather not do that for the rest of my life. I need to be moving around or outside or something I need some action in my day. If you can sit in an office for eight hours a day for five days a week all year and like it you must be superhuman. If I end up with my dream job I’ll be having action all day and I’ll be able to take off anytime I want and go anywhere I want. It doesn’t sound to bad though the weather’s always the same and you make a decent amount of money.

  8. Ever since a young age I’ve always been interested in art. In my youngest years of grade school, I always enjoyed art class and doing projects. Then, in fourth grade I made friends with a girl who I thought drew really well. She, and my group of friends at the time, inspired my to start practicing drawing. From then on out, I got farther and farther into art. I started leaning more towards drawing realistically rather than in a cartoon-ish style. As of this year, I started going to VOC’s for Graphic Design and Communications to further my career into the world of art. I don’t know exactly what my dream job would be, but I definitely want to do something that has to do with graphic designs. Creating and making advertisements or making billboards really interest me. It’s a way for everyone to see your work, and it’s a pretty cool job. I think I’m well suited for it too, especially since I really enjoy art in general. Plus, I can apply my talents and hopefully I’ll be able to do what I love.

I really like the idea of not only doing what I love, but also getting paid a pretty good amount of money for it. Of course, it’s anyone’s dream to have a job that pays well. Most jobs that have anything to do with Graphic Design usually have a pretty nice paycheck. Especially since the work relies heavily on your product and how well the project you’re working on comes out. Not only that, but teaching yourself and learning how to use certain functions in Photoshop and InDesign proves to bring up new challenges with each project. Not only that, but it’s really rewarding to learn how to use all these difficult programs correctly. And overall, it’s nice to have a job/career that you actually enjoy.

Of course, this being a profession that takes a lot of time and dedication to get into the proper school/college to learn how to use all these programs and such. Seeing this, there are obviously certain investments that must be put into pursuing this career; like money, and time, and actually passing classes in high school. Since Freshmen year, I’ve been striving to do good in all of my classes. So, that hopefully once I finish high school, I’ll be able to get into a good vocational school, or maybe even a college so I can get myself oriented towards the path of this career. Not only that, but I’ve obviously been putting in time and dedication to go to a vocational school to start off my career in graphic design. Which is pretty difficult since I’ve been getting up at 5 every morning, and then jumping on buses almost all morning. It’s only three hours of my time at the school in the morning, but I’ve really been learning a lot and I’m really enjoying VOC’s so far. It is pretty difficult to come back to Central and take more classes here. Which, I have to not only keep my grades up here, but I have to also keep my grades up at VOC’s and I can’t miss more than 5 days if I want to be able to choose my classes next year in VOC’s. In conclusion, I’m willing to put quite a lot of time and hard work into this career.

As of now, there aren’t any specific companies that I have in mind for working for. There are quite a few companies that I have in mind, though. Companies like Google, Buzzfeed, and basically any company with a logo use graphic design to “design” their business’ in different ways, and make their logos look like something a person could remember. I’m not too surprised by the National Society of High School Scholars survey rankings, they seem pretty accurate to the world today.

  9. My dream job was always to be a FBI detective. I always wanted this job because this the feeling of solving the loved losses and actually working for the criminal justice department would be not only fun on my behalf but for fill the emptiness that was left inside the families with the devastation lost. I know i’m well suited for this job because i’m very interested in this subject and I love going by step by step back in the victim's life and figuring out why the devastating process even happened. The qualities that are mostly wanted in this job is very much so the number 1 PATIENCE, and the second major one is that it makes you lose all types of feelings for anything in general once you see that many lives are lost and you get to break the news. My salary would be $130,810 a year with all experience and a raise for all the crimes you have solved. The sense of purpose would be that unfortunately for me my aunt disappeared in the year of 2014, and her body was never found it was like the dirt ate her alive. Some detectives after 5 months of working on a specific case and can’t get to the first step would leave it cold in the unsolved piles. This is a very challenging job overall finding the right evidence and going by the victim's life step by step that you didn;’t even now, and most importantly the reasoning and facing the judge so you don’t look like a complete idiot. You do feel appreciated after the case is solved knowing that the family, friend or any loved one is more than grateful with your work. Liking your job is okay, but loving your job is not even considered a job it’s more like a hobby and how you feel welcomed everyday. The investments that we are willing to make is saving for college and pursuing it by attending extra programs, that are similar to what i’m going for would really enjoy working for the Federal Bureau Investigation.

  10. I am suprised to hear you want to be a pharmacist. My my worked in the medical field. Though she hated it and her job. They do make a decent amount of money though which is a plus. I feel the same way of not wanting to live paycheck to paycheck. I think your job would be cool as long as you like it.

  11. My dream job would be a businessman because my mom is a businesswomen and it would be cool to do since you make lots of money doing that for a job and its interesting to me since it could be a experience for me to see if i like doing it for a living. I think im kind of suited for that kind of job but i would need to go to college so i know what i have to do for that kind of job but it seems like a good job to do. The qualities that i think i would like would be to work together with people that have and I like working alone to because it makes it less stressful a little bit for me so i could get done faster by myself but it would be alot of fun for me. I think the salary would be alot of money since that do make alot so it would be good. It would be probably hard to have scheduling at least for if i have to plan things for events but i could manage that probably. I would want to be good at my job but i wouldn’t know yet because i would have to research all things that are fun about being what i want to be for that because its just my dream job not my actual job yet. The companies that i would want to work for would be investers bank and that probably would be it because i wouldn’t want to have alot of companies to work for and it depends what i would want or who to work for that companie or not but when i get older and get the job i probably would have more companies but for now I would just want to have investers bank as one of them but it would be cool to have alot of them.

  12. I would say that my dream job would be to become a architectural engineer. I’d say this would be my dream job because I love to design and build things. I’m taking classes that help with this and it’s really fun to just draw and make blueprints for different things. I would say I’m well suited for this because when I was younger I would always look at different structures and wonder how they were designed. I found this very interesting and I wanted to learn how to make structures and have them built. I also love to draw and drawing this type of stuff is really fun to me.
The qualities that are most important to me for this is being ables to draw and knowing a lot of math. There are a lot of numbers involved when it comes to how big or how small one wall is to the other. There are also a lot of measurements involved when doing this. The salary that architects make is a lot and is ranged from 46,000 to well over 125,000. If you’re just finishing school you can be making a lot of moneybright of the bat. It can be challenging being this because some things are different from others and making a blueprint for a mall or something even bigger like a skyscraper or maybe a bridge can be very challenging but when people like a what you built it can be very rewarding because you put a lot of time and effort into making something that the public will enjoy.
The investments I’m willing to make for this dream job is to work very hard in school to put a lot of time in practicing how to design different things. This is something I really want work towards and I want to be able to earn this job. I’m not sure what company I want work for yet but when the time comes I’ll be sure to find a good company to work for.

  14. When I was younger I wanted to be a lawyer , but now I think I might be more in need of a lawyer than able to become one. I dont like school very much and lawyers have to go through alot of schooling that i believe is so unneccesary . Yes lawyers need to learn all about our judicial system , but so do cops more importantly and cops barely go through any schooling before there certified . Although i would love to make as much as lawyers do, i rather do something in the medical feild and make the same or if not more . I desire to make atleast 100 thousand a year . I wish i couldve done vocs this year for nursing to get started with my career but unfortunately some of my bad decisions have been catching up with me and now i have to make up for the many dumb mistakes i put myself through . This year i had to double up classes and next year i will have to as well to be able to catch up and be able to graduate with my original class . I wish i could be doing more to set myself up for my career choice and life after high school but than again all the things im doing now and how hard im trying is preparing me for whats coming next in my life . I just know as long as i keep pushing and get through these last few years ill be able to get through a little more schooling in order to be something successful . Ive been working at a restaurant for about a year now and have been saving money up already for school , because you know after high school education does not come free and you have to pay your way just like with everything else . My work ethic and my determination to finish and follow through with my goals is what keeps me going , sometimes i do get discouraged and think about giving upp or making a wrong decision and than i realize what im doing it for . In the end everything will fall into place we all think this is the hardest time of our life now but really its not. After high school when everyone graduates and your stuck sitting there wondering what to do next and how your going to earn a living and become a full time adult , thats when life actually gets hard. I never wanna find myself in that spot , not knowing what to do next thats why now i want to push myself to do better in school and start to enjoy and soak up as much as i can now so later when im ready to go to college or nursing school it will be a breeze and ill have a actually plan on where im going next and be able to set realalistic goals that i can try and complete.

  15. When I am done with high school i will have to do something with my life. I would have to find a actual job. It would be cool if i could have my dream job. My dream job would being a pro soccer player. I always loved to play soccer I was surrounded by soccer like my whole life. Being on the field for 90+ minutes and not thinking about your life problems. Everything happening in life disappears and it’s just you and the ball. You don’t need to blank yourself from life with sleep. You can just play some soccer.I think this job could be suited well for me because i know how to play the game and what the coaches like in a player. I have some nice ball control and movement without the ball too. Some things that can make you a good soccer player. Other things are being fast and having a hard hit on the ball as well. One of the most important things is being composure and not being very physical.

If I were to be a pro soccer player the salary would be unknown until i sign with a club. The average salary in the MLS, however, was $160,000, and the median salary was $100,000. That is if the owners of the club think you are worth that much so you have to be good at playing soccer. With the economy today, the number will go up in the future. With the scheduling I know I could be there. My time would only be focused on soccer and nothing but soccer. Soccer would be my job where i would have to make money for myself, family and my future family if I choose to get married and have kids. I’m someone who likes to be challenged in life. It makes me feel what i do feel better. Now i think i would be an average player and not playing with the best clubs in the world. That to a lot of pro players is still a dream

  16. My dream job is to become a construction business owner. I want my business to be one of the best in the state or even bigger. When i was growing up it wasn't always to become a business owner. When i was younger my dream job was to become an astronaut or a biologist. I would always try my hardest in science class to make my grades and reports on the subject the best it could be by researching up the information in textbooks and even looking it up online. Yet, growing up I lost the motivation to become an astronaut or biologist. The reason for it was when people told me about the cost it would be to go to college or how good i had to be in school to get a scholarship. Which i'm not the best in school to get a scholarship to be able to achieve my dream job. So over time i’ve got people and family to give me ideas that i would be able to do in the future as a stable job and one that i would like to do for a career. So, after a while my father gave me the idea that i would be able to make a business that everyone needs like construction. So, we both agreed on the idea and because he knows many skills in the trade that he would be able to help me out. So, while i’m still in school I tried finding other people that would help me more in my idea to build a business. In doing so i was able to find the vocational school that had the trade i wanted to study and learn.
By doing the vocational school i'm able to earn my license to do the trade. Also on the side of the school i go with my father to his jobs to learn hands-on.After highschool im planing to go back to vocational school to do the electrical trade.hvac, and possibly plumbing to further my experience in the business so i won’t have to depend on someone who knows what they’re doing saving me money in the long run. By doing what i'm doing i believe that one day i will be able to look back at what i’ve done and be proud of it.

  17. My dream job would be to own a shoe store. Ever since I was little I always dreamed of having my very own shoe store to call my own. Shoes have been my fascination for decades now and i think it would be great to be the owner of a shoe store called Ficher’s Shoes. My favorite kind of shoes would mostly be Jordan's, mostly the sneaker type. I love to buy and sell shoes i find it cool and time consuming. When i get a new pair of shoes i get really happy and then when i sell them i get sad but i then think of what the money is like.
When i get my own store i will be introduced to many shoe companies and my business will be so good i will be making a lot of money. I think the most important thing will be the money and if the people will like my shoes and the prices of them. When i start getting the money i will be so happy and i will want to spend more to get more shoes. Also the most important thing is that i will be getting the most expensive shoe out there. The think i will start doing is getting my name out there and having people know who i am. When i start meeting big people in the shoe world i will start getting people to rely on and work to make money. When i have my first shoe soled with my new store i will be so happy and feel proud of myself.
If my dream job gets to me i will never stop and i will never make people hate my store or shoes. I know that the store will become a success and i will have almost every shoe company in my hands. finally if this dream comes true i will be so heartbroken and i will drop idea , also i will be the most youngest store owner in the state.

  19. The work of my dreams is to be someday a great doctor, to what I know that takes many years of study and learning I hope someday achieve it, I would like to save lives on that I know the truth not all people can save because my fear is not being able to save a person and to see his family suffered for the loss of a relative. Or to be afraid my work deconcention me or I stress too much and do something wrong. because it is a risk that I want to take. I want to risk doing my job well and saving all possible possibilities. I also know that this work would take away all my time, time that I can spend with my family or loved ones because it is my dream I hope and someday achieve it because I also know it is a well paid job.

  20. If you ask me what my dream job is today, i would gladly agree on being a midwife. I have been stuck on this idea for about two years now and i haven’t been more excited for a job than this one. My love to be a midwife started when i realized how amazing a woman’s body can be while expecting a child and all the crazy changes that happen during her forty-weeks of growing and changing. Many people do not know what a midwife is, and to those : a midwife is a woman, and when a pregnant woman wants to have her child at home she hires a midwife to come and do the home delivery and check ups on the mother to be. This idea sparked to life due to my love for children and since i have had experience taking care of newborns in the past i think it will be best suited for me. I have always thought that the whole process is something exciting and breathtaking to do and it pays well. The annual salary for a midwife is $96,970. That’s year to year. Making almost twice as much as teachers and higher than a nurse.

If you would of asked me the same question about ten years ago it would have been a vet, that was before i found out that the job includes putting beloved animals down and doing life or death surgery. As much as i love animals i could not bare to do that job for it would be sad and not so fun of a job as i thought it would have been earlier in my life. Before i had thought that being a vet meant to just take care of animals and to play with them and look after them until they were well, more like dog sitting, or just generally having a dog. Which would have most likely been the best job ever if it was the latter.

  21. Ever since I was a little girl, my mom would always ask me and my sisters the same question; What do you want be when you grow up? My answer was always the same to her; “I want to be a Teacher like you mom.” Now that I am older, I no longer want to be a Teacher like mom was, but I would love to work at a Museum as a Museum Educator.

Some of the reasons why I would like this job are because Museum Educators plan tours and other programs for museum visitors of all ages, work with the Curators to develop exhibits, as well as oversee the docents. I also love History. Although I don’t feel like I am well suited for this career at this moment, I will continue working toward developing some of the qualities that are needed in order to succeed in this field.

Some of the skills needed for this career are to be a good writer, creative and good with people. I know that I need to work on the writing and putting my thoughts on paper, on the other hand, I love sharing new ideas and information with different types of people.

According to Google, Museum Educators don’t earn a lot of money. I rather get paid a little bit of money doing what I love, than to earn a lot of money and hate my career. There’s a saying that says; “Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life.”

The investments I am willing to make now to get my dream job eventually are, spending a lot of time reading articles, watching documentaries, reading books and other forms of literature and continue to educate myself in World History.

Being a Museum Educator would give me the sense that I am doing my purpose in life because I would be doing what I love. In life there would always be challenges. You just have to get up every time you fall, and prove to yourself that you are stronger than you think.

The qualities that are important to me for my job is knowing i'm doing something that betters someone’s future as well as taking horrible people off the streets and putting them where they belong i would also be interested in improving my body and mind and getting a better understanding of the struggles of life.
The investments i'm willing to take is putting my life on the line for the betterment of others as well as going through physical and mental training. And becoming aware of the dangers and hard scenes i will have to see and be apart of.
