The quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” by Wayne Gretzky, means that if you don’t give something a shot or don’t put in the effort, then you have no chance at all of winning or doing good. If you don’t try, then you will have a 100% chance of missing or doing bad, because no effort from you is being included. This relates to an experience in my life because a few years ago, my friends and I were playing some regular street hockey in front of my house. We were all having a great time, versing each other with our teams. However, one of my friends were getting annoyed and didn’t want to play anymore because he felt he wasn’t playing good enough and just quit on us. Since he gave up, he wasn’t putting in any effort, and wasn’t becoming any better. Not practicing hockey anymore just because he wasn’t good enough was a shot he didn’t take, and if he doesn’t practice, he has a 100% shot of not becoming good. You should always try your hardest, put in a lot of effort, and always think positive if you want to have a good shot at becoming good, or winning something. Something may happen in a competition, or while practicing, you may learn a lot more and become a lot better at it. Always take a shot at everything, because you never know what could happen that may make you have a better shot.

DeleteI totally agree with hunter’s response to the quote. Always try your hardest and put your best efforts into trying. If you don’t put in your best effort than you’re not going to get any better. Always keep a positive attitude and you will sure reach your goal of getting better. Also, I agree with the statement that you should put in a lot of effort to becoming a better player.
Yea hunter I really agree with you. If you don't try you can't succeed! I also like how you mention that if you do this a lot you will get better. I hate when people give up. If anyone tries there hardest, their succession rate will go up by double.
DeleteI completely agree with you. If you do not put the effort it takes to even get a chance at it, then you wont be able to improve nor ever be really good at it. If you give up then you are just ruining your chances. You can either do that, or pick the harder one and take another shot at it. The harder path, is usually the one that gives out the most.

ReplyDeleteThe quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” is saying that if you do not pursue something that you have wanted to do, then you’re going to miss that opportunity to do it.If you don’t go and do it, then you’re going to regret not doing it when you had the chance. It’s okay to take risks to do something that you love. It shows that you really have the courage to go against the boundaries to pursue that goal. An experience that I had similar to this is when I wanted to go out for a sports team. I was really nervous to join, but i knew if i didn’t go out for the team than I would have lost all my chances of playing for the season. I had the support of my family and friends to push me to go towards my goal. I got on the team and I had a lot of playing. If i didn’t join, than I wouldn’t have been able to meet new and incredible people.So this quote is explaining that yiu should always go after your dreams.If you don’t then you mit not have that chance to do it ever again. So always go and follow your dreams and never think about your regrets because they’ll only slow you down.
I really agree with you Sam. If you didn’t go out for the team, you wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to play or see how good you were. Also, you wouldn’t have met the people that you did. And you wouldn't have the enjoyment of playing on the team.
DeleteI agree with Sam. IF you don't take that oppurtunity, then you don't know whe or if you'll ever have that chance again. You never know what will happen if you take that oppourtunity, and if you do, you will always have your family and friends there to support you. If you don't take one at all, you have a 100% chance of not doing that shot.

Furthermore, it says that you have to try as hard as you can to be successful or to do what you dream of. That could be a lifelong dream, a passion, or just a strong desire to do something. Also, it means that if you miss the chance, you will never get it again. For example, not joining a sports team or a club that you really wanted to join. The only thing holding you back is yourself. If you don't overcome those boundaries that are trying to stop you, you’ll never become your best self. You will always regret that one thing that you really wanted to do, but didn’t. This quote relates to an experience that I had in my life a few years ago. I really wanted to go out and join the soccer team.I was incredibly nervous and knew after the first day that I wouldn’t make it. On the next day of tryouts however, I pushed myself to be the best player that I could be and showed myself that the only person holding me back was me. I ended up making the team and I proved that I could do anything that I set out to do.

Because, like you said, you never know when you will get that chance again. You not do something, because the only thing your doing is holding yourself back from your dreams. Never be the person who regrets that one thing they really wanted to do but, never did it.

I believe that it means if you don’t take an opportunity you won’t have a hundred percent chance of succeeding. When you don’t take things seriously or at its full advantage you could miss great opportunities. You should never regret not taking an opportunity to succeed, do what you feel is right. I play soccer and to make it big you need as much exposure you could get. The more people who know who you are the better chance you have in succeeding in the sport. You have to take every opportunity to the fullest because you never know who is watching. The more you show your abilities, the more calls you get about camps, trainings, or tryouts. Soccer is one of the hardest sports to succeed successfully for girls, but the more you show how much you want it the better chance you have in succeeding. The only way to do that is to take every opportunity to the best of your ability. This quote does not only refer to soccer it also refers to all different sports. If you do not try out for a team you want to play for or quit you are only holding yourself back from succeeding. You should always take your opportunities to your full advantage so, you could be successful in whatever you want. Most importantly, always take advantage of every opportunity you get, you never know where it will lead you.
Alyssa, I totally agree with what you said in your response. In order to be successful in sports, you need to put yourself out there and be known. Also, if you want something bad enough, you have to run at and try to be the best you could possible be at it. I also agree with what you said about this quote applying to sports. If you don't try out, you'll regret it later on.

You’re going to regret that you didn’t take the chance. A couple years ago my friends and I tried out for the drama club. Sadly, my one friend only made it. It felt good that I tried though. The next year came around and I asked my friends if they wanted to try out again. They were like no it’s stupid it’s not like we’re going to get in. I just went with my gut and auditioned without my friends and, I actually made it! I honestly thought that I wouldn’t since I didn’t the year before. However, since I tried out last year it must have helped me make the drama club the year after. It was an amazing experience I made a lot of new friends in drama. They were people i never would've even thought of talking too. It was like i had a second family .I'm so happy i went back and tried out it was definitely worth it. All in all, the quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is an extremely important quote and if you want to go for something give it your all and never give up.
I completely agree with you Tori. I think that you are right when you said to go for something or you might miss the opportunity. Thats good that you still tried out again for drama, even though your friends didnt want to do it. The quote relates to them because they didnt know what thy were missing. So, good job Tori.

I think this quote means that if you don’t go for it, you will never know what you missed. If you don’t go for what you want you might never get the chance to do it again. You have take a good opportunity when it is presented, if you don’t you might forget it forever. Sometimes it might be worth the risk, but you will never know if you dont try. I think it just depends on the situation. It relates to my life by if I don't try to do something, I will never know what could have happened. I also think that if you don't try and put enough effort into something it won't turn out as good as it could have. So, my friend was going to try out for cheer and she wanted me to do it with her. So, she finally convinced me to do it. Then, I got in and it was really fun. Then, I realized if I didn't try out for it, I would have missed out. I believe this quote is trying to say that you should always try no matter what you do. This quote would apply perfectly to the equestrian world. An equestrian must put in a 100% effort, if they don’t, neither will the horse. The horse feeds off the rider, for example, if you’re a ball of nerves and tense while you ride, the horse will feel that through your seat. Once they feel that, they are tense and a ball of nerves too, thus leading to a terrible ride. An experience I’ve had when I didn't put in a 100% effort was at a horse show, I was having a little bit of an off day. When it was my turn to show, I got nervous, I wasn't sure of the course and I feel I didn't put in my 100% effort that I normally do. My horse Legacy, feeds off of my nervousness and we didn't do very good in that class. But, the next show I did, I was ready to go, I put in my 100% effort and jumped the course like the pro’s. Legacy and I did way better then we did in the last show. In conclusion, If you don’t put in your best effort, then you’re not going to shine!

Here’s what I think, and what it means in my own words: if you don’t try in school, or you choose to not take opportunities in life, you will NEVER even have a chance of accomplishing things. In this saying, the ‘shots’ you’re getting are the opportunities. And if you don’t ‘take the shots’ then that means you aren’t trying in what you would like to accomplish. Although some people, still, when given an opportunity, will pass up on it saying “I could never do that” or “That’s impossible!” When, even with slim chances, you could possibly do it. If you don’t try it, It THEN becomes “impossible” to do it. Because you didn’t attempt it. Here’s a real life example of mine, and it’s really simple: extra credit on a test. Most people won’t even try the hardest questions because they think “Wow, that’s way too hard for me. Why even try?” Well, I’ll try those questions. Even if I doubt myself. If I don’t try, I don’t have any chance of getting it right! But if I do try it, I very well could have a chance, and sometimes I actually get it right. And it feels amazing.

Like with a sport , you see the ball in front of you, in the goal is right there. It is the perfect time to score, but you didn’t take that chance and you walked away. You see, you need to take a chance in order for you to succeed at what you are doing. This quote involves with life in the past, the present, and the future. Everyone has taken a chance to do what right and something magical happened.

His quote is like from god. I actually used this quote in my life at a decision making one time. What I had to do was that I had to choose between having fun or doing work. I choose having fun because your life I timed until the end, and I want to live my life. That is what this quote means and has experienced in my life.

If you don't try something because you don't want to fail, you're still basically failing. To have a chance at anything you need to go for it because if you don't, you have no chance at all. This quote relates to me. A few years ago I wanted to try out for a basketball team. I was planning on it until I was scared to not make the team. I didn't 100% believe in my skills so in the end I told my parents that I wasn't going to try out for the team because I didn't want to fail. They told me that if I try that I might make the team and if I don't I definitely won't make the team. I decided that I would try out and I made the team. I was very surprised and so happy that I ended up trying out. If I decided to not try I would have not made the team but since I took that chance it paid off. This is a very good quote since people should not fear failure and take every chance they can. Even if the odds are stacked against you maybe one time you'll make it and it will be worth it.

For example in basketball if you don't shoot the ball because you think you'll miss, you already missed all the chances you had. If you don't try, you can never succeed at something. For instance if you have a job opportunity to work for Apple, you'll never get the job if you don't go out and strive to get the job. This happens all the time in gym class at Central, kids don't participate because they are afraid of not doing well. They feel like they will be laughed at and mocked for their lack of athletic ness. Something like this happened to me once, I was given an opportunity to get to go on a trip with the school to Europe, but I didn't go because I was worried about getting lost. But I should have went because all the kids that did go said they had a great time. What Wayne is trying to say is that you shouldn't be afraid of failure and you should try different things because you never know you might like it, and that you should take ever opportunity to better yourself in the world

Also, if you never take risks or fail in life you will never know what is right and what is wrong. People are afraid to try new things and fail in life, but that gets you nowhere in life. The only way you get better at something is by failing the first time and then fixing your mistakes. Nobody is perfect so, people should not be afraid to fail. Everyone that has succeeded in life has taken those risks and chances. Before, they succeed they failed one hundred times. So that shows that even the best players like Wayne Gretzky have failed before.
This quote relates to an experience in my own life because I play hockey just like Wayne Gretzky did. I know that I will miss 100% of the shots I don’t take. How would i become any better or score any goals if I didn’t take any shots? When I first started playing hockey i wasn’t good at all. However, I kept practicing and taking shots so i became better and stated scoring a lot of goals and helping my team win. If I just gave up and said that i can’t score there is no way that i would have got better and just magically started scoring. If you want to be good at something or better than the next guy, it ultimately comes down to putting forth more effort. If you put a lot of effort into something it will take you a long way in life.

The quote means if you don’t try you will never know if you would’ve made a shot, or liked the opportunity you were offered. If you never take the opportunity then you might regret saying no, or not even trying to take it. Most of the time you already think you’ll fail or you aren’t good enough, so you give up. In reality isn’t giving up the real failure? If you try then you can at least say you gave it your all, but just giving up is even worse. Giving up isn’t a choice in my life because I play soccer, and in soccer you must take any opportunity to shoot. Coming from a defender who has barely any chances to shoot, seeing people not shoot is so frustrating. If you don’t take the opportunity to shoot, you might never have the opportunity again. Even if you think about not shooting by the time you try, then you have a defender on you. They aren’t any fun, but saying you had a goal is. You get to smile as big as the world, and everyone cheers for you. That’s why you should always try to shoot, and if you miss you try again. In soccer, shooting has a big role, and you should be the person to take that big role and shoot first.

For example, if somebody wants to create a portrait, but don't put in 100% effort they they won't do well. What Wayne Gretzky is trying to say is that if you want to achieve something you have to put 100% effort into doing so, or else you will not achieve it. Another example would be if you wanted to try and make good grades in school but you don't try at it, you will miss your shot and won't’ be able to achieve what you wanted to. many people just want something but they don't want it bad they just kind of want it. you have to want it if you want to succeed at what you want to succeed at. I think that it means that if you don’t go out and take risks you will have a zero percent chance of success. If you don’t give something a chance you will never succeed. I think it also means that you have to keep trying and never give up. If you don’t keep trying something after you fail you will not succeed. For example, in basketball if you don’t shoot the ball once you will not have a chance to score. Even if it isn’t your day you have to keep shooting for you can succeed and make a shot. If you don’t even attempt to shoot you will not succeed. You can’t just lay down and quit you will never get a chance to make a shot. This quote relates to me because I play basketball. Basketball is a game of failing because most likely you will miss more shots then you make. If you shoot 50% that is usually a pretty good game. Even though you are going to miss some you are going to have to take a chance and shoot the ball again and again. If you don’t shoot at all you’ll never get a chance to make one. Many doors will open for you if you give it your 100%, even if you don’t achieve what you’re after the first time. You shouldn’t be afraid to miss a chance because there is no shame in it; you just try again next time. Unless you try, you can’t succeed. An example of how this quote applied to my life is when I started archery. A few years back, I had become interested into archery shortly after watching the Pixar movie “Brave”. Luckily my dad had a bow for me then and gave it to me to keep. The only conflict was that the bow was huge to me at the time and drawing the string back was very difficult (it was a 25 lb pull.) I had tried many times pulling the string and failing over and over, but I was not giving up. I would practice once or twice a day with my bow and still wasn’t able to do it. One day I had enough strength to pull back the string all the way at last. I was then ready to start getting arrows and practice on targets. It was a very proud, triumphant moment for me; something that held me back for so long was finally conquered. To this day I still do archery, and I would’ve never found my love for it if I gave up and didn’t give it my 100% effort.

It kind of tells people to take risks, and the risks they don’t take are a loss to them. And Wayne Gretzky was a professional hockey player and many people look up to him because he is arguably the best hockey player ever. he is the only hockey player to have ever scored more than 200 points in one season, and he did that four times. after he retired he was immediately put in the hockey hall of fame.

How could you possibly do something good or right, if you don’t put forth the effort to even attempt to do it right. No one ever got anywhere by giving up without even giving something a try. All the greats pushed through the long and hard work and accomplished something great by doing so. This quote definitely relates to our everyday lives. There are so many examples. One example of this is when you’re on a test. You have a better chance of getting the question right if you even just guess. However, if you just leave the answer blank, you will absolutely be wrong. Another example that can be related to real life is sports. You don’t just get good at sports all of a sudden. You have to work and try hard. You have to keep a consistent and hardworking plan and slowly develop your way. All of the greats have gone through this process and in the end it paid off. If you ever want to get anywhere you actually have to apply yourself enough to even get a chance at being good at the particular thing. In conclusion, if you never put effort into something you ever most slightly want to do, then you will always never get it. However if you put in some effort and some time, you definitely have a chance at getting what you want.
