"First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks.  You never really understand a person until you consider things form his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

*Explain what you think this quote means?

* What does it mean to you personally? Give an example from your own life when you have seen yourself or someone else experience this.

  1. I think that this quote means that before you judge someone or think you won't like someone based on their physical appearance or inner feeling you have to be able to understand them. If you just think that you won't really know until you understand them and grasp their personality. Throughout the story i think that scout doesn't really understand this because what if Boo Radley really is someone ugly on the outside but super nice and loving on the inside. What i am trying to say is basically to understand something before you just assume what something basically is. It also doesn’t just apply to the book though. it could also apply to real life situation around you. For example one time in my life i thought someone was mean and really angry all the time, but i talked to them and they actually ended up being really nice to me n\and to other people surrounding him. in the story, there is a teacher who is mean or seems mean but i think that as the story maybe goes on that they will end up liking her a finally notice that she really isn't just mean and that she is also nice to people. Another example is “don't judge a book by its cover”. That quote right there actually relate to this situation and quote is the story ‘’To Kill a Mockingbird’ This quote is kind of saying the same thing. Don't judge someone or something until you understand that person or thing. This quote could really take place in real life when you encounter situations like this one. You could think back on this and reflect and say to your self that you need to understand them before you judge them. Ass you can see this quote relates not only to real life encounters but also in story and even to other quotes. This is really something to think back on to when you are with a stranger or a new friend. Dont just assume something. you have to actually understand it.

    1. I agree with what you said, Justin. Don't judge others too soon. Also, I think Miss Caroline might turn out to be nice. Or, maybe it refers to Boo Radley. I don't know.

  2. The quote, "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it,” can be interrupted in many ways. But I think what it’s saying if you can learn something simple, like people skills and such you would get along with so many people. And how you can’t judge anyone or understand what they go through until you take the time to walk in there shoes. Learn about them and feel how they feel. And then when you do that you’d get a better understand of them and yourself. This is because we are all different a unique so no one really knows each other the way we know ourselves.
We see people judge each other all the time, either by what they look like, what they wear, what they believe in and such. But those people don’t know what that person goes through and they never will until they take the time to. For me this is quite personal because I am judged all the time. People make fun of me for the way I dress and for how I act. And I’ve seen my friends mistreated by these types of people, my one friend is slightly overweight and is judged because of that and because of their sexual preference and it’s a shame that people can judge others like this and mistreat them.
I recently watched a movie called The Suicide Theory, and it was about a man who wanted to kill himself but failed everytime. So he hires a hitman to help him. But this man wants to die because his life partner chris was killed so he didn’t want to live anymore. But throughout the movie the man is judged for being gay. At one point he goes to this guys house and the guy is actually a homophobic and him and his buddies beat him up. So the hitman tries feeling how he must of felt and he was so upset so he killed the attackers.

  3. "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This quote means to try and see things from another person's point of view by "walking in their shoes." Basically, he means that before you judge someone, you really have to think about where they're coming from. You can’t just go around judging and complaining about someone before knowing who they are and why they act the way they do. Atticus is telling Scout to not be so hard on Miss Caroline because she hasn’t been here long and she wasn’t raised the way everyone else in Maycomb was. He is also saying that you can learn something like people skills and you would get along with so many people because you saw from their view. If you can learn simple people skills it’s simple to have more people who are more fond of you.
This means to me that I can’t judge someone who wears what they wear, or talk the way they talk because I don’t know where they’re coming from. It means that I need to look at what they’re saying from their background and their P.O.V. I had to do this one time when I was in a fight with this girl. I had to realize that what I said could offend people because we weren’t raised in the same house and had the same luxuries. I had to see that what I said could offend her, and realize not everyone will see from my point of view. She had to see that I wasn’t saying it maliciously, and not to offend or hurt anyone. She had to see from my point of view and apologize for taking what I said the wrong way. I had to do the same.

  5. To me, I think the quote means that you can’t judge someone just from looking at them. You don’t know what it’s like for someone until you actually experience what they go through in life. To get along with people you can’t just look at their physical appearance, you actually have to see what they are like on the inside. Their outside appearance you may not like but if you actually got to know what they are like on the inside you may actually get along with them. They could be going through something and their physical appearance may make them look bad but if you knew how they felt on the inside you’ll actually understand them more. This reminds me of a time when their was a new girl in school and people were judging her on for what she looked on the outside. They were making fun of her and calling her names. I decided to talk to her and see what she’s actually like. It turned out that she was actually a really cool person. She was very outgoing and nice to me. She was just shy to talk to new people and didn’t know anyone else in the school. That’s why she was quiet throughout the year. If other people were in her shoes they would know how she felt when she had to move to a new state and go to a totally new school and have to meet new people. You will never know how a person feels until you experience the things that they are going through and once you experience the things that they have gone through it will totally change your way of looking at them and realize that they were different from what you actually thought of them. So this quote is telling you that you can’t just judge someone just from looking at them. You actually have to get to know them and understand what it feels like to be in their position. Never assume things just from looks or rumors you hear. If you get to know them for who they actually are on the inside, then you make like them for who they are.

    2. I agree with you, Sam. Judging someone for way they look doesn't give you an idea on how the person actually is. Seeing how they are on the inside and what they experience and have experienced helps you understand a person more then just catching a glimpse of them.

  6. What i think the quote means is that you shouldn't judge someone by their appearance or looks. You got to look at their personality and know who they really are. You need to understand their likes, dislikes what they’re into and how they act before you can judge them. The person you see may not be the prettiest, but you never know what they may have in common with you. You can’t judge someone just by their looks, it's the inside of them that matters. What this quote means to me personally is that everyone should give a person a chance to express themselves to be able to know who they really are. You can’t just say they’re a bad or mean person just because they’re ugly. You have to give them a chance to let them show you how they are. This quote relates to a time in my life because when my brother started his 5th grade year, he saw this student that looked ugly to him and didn’t seem like a person he would want to hang out with and become friends. He would avoid him as much as possible just because he looked weird and didn’t seem like his type. My brother was judging this student on his appearance and looks. He was assuming things on just looks and not giving this student a chance to express himself to let my brother know who he was. However, when one of my brothers friends became friends with this kid, he started to wonder why he was hanging out with this kid. My brother then tried becoming friends with this kid since his friend was friends with him. When he gave this kid to express himself, he realized that they have a lot in common. My brother then became great friends with this kid and now hang out a lot at school. My brother gave this kid to express himself and this made him realize they have a lot in common. You should always know what the inside of the person is like first, not the outside.

  7. I think this quote means a lot, and is pretty much a translation of a very common quote we have heard since we were little kids. That quote is “don’t judge a book by it's cover.” It means the same thing. What it means is that before you judge anything right away (by looking at it’s “cover”) take time and find out the story behind it. You barely know anything about it. Same with the quote from How to Kill a Mockingbird. “You can learn a simple trick… and get along better with all kinds of folks” this is referring to the judging by the book. Lean a simple trick (be nice) and get along with people, but it says this : “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." Meaning you won’t fully understand until you find out about the story behind them and take world from how they see it. I see things happen like this all the time in school. People will make fun of people because of the way they act, or how they look. They are judging them like they’ve known them all their lives. Well, they haven’t. They saw them a couple times in the hallway and decide they should say something about them. If more people thought about their actions, and what they said, the world would be a better place. Even if they just followed the quote! I mean, I’ve heard time after time people repeat “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” then go out and talk trash behind people’s back, or even spread rumors on people they’ve talked to for a good ten minutes. This quote means a lot when taken seriously. If everybody got a chance to switch lives with other people not knowing but he people who swapped, there would be a lot more respect. People would actually understand others, instead of just assuming random things they decide to come up with in their head.

  8. "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." I think this quote means that if you can take people’s advice and listen to them they will like you a lot better than if you are stuck up and don’t listen to them. People and especially older folks like when you listen to what they have to say and then you use their advice, it makes them feel good. If I was trying to give someone advice and they basically blew me off, and made me feel like I was talking to a wall I would get pissed too. I also think this quote means that you never understand how a person feels inside until you are inside their shoes. You may think someone is rude or mean, but they might not be, they might be really nice inside. You have to consider things from their point of view before you can judge them. Some people might act like they are around other people and their friends, but the might actually be sad inside. They might want to keep their feelings inside, but they put a facade on,on the outside. Therefore, you might might think they are happy, but they are really sad. There has been many times where my friends act happy in school, but when I text them they tell me that they are sad. For example, my one friend was getting bullied but everyday he acted like nothing was wrong. Therefore, I couldn’t do anything about it, until my friend told me he was getting bullied. If I knew he was sad when he was acting happy, I could have stopped the bullying earlier and saved my friend a lot of stressful days. If you know how someone feels inside it changes how you treat that person on a daily basis.

  9. The quote “First of all if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it,” means a lot. I think the quote means exactly what is it saying. You really don't understand anyone unless you are them. This quote reminds me of another quote when people say to walk a mile in their shoes and then they might understand. For example if someone is having a really bad day, You might not understand how bad it really is unless you are that person. This quote also reminds me of “don't judge a book by it's cover.” This also relates to the book “To Kill a Mockingbird.” For example, the Cunninghans were poor, so they couldn't even pay back people with money. Walter Cunninghan couldn't even finish the first grade because he had to help his father on the farm. Some people did not know how hard that was. When Walter came to Scout's house for lunch he poured syrup all over his food because he does not have things like that. Scout thought he was crazy, but that was just because she was never in his shoes. This quote is telling people not to judge people no matter how poor or rich they are because you have no idea how easy or hard it was to get that way. If you are in the same situation as someone else, then maybe you would understand more, but you are not in their skin, so you would not exactly know. If you try to understand the problem and listen the person may notice you are trying and be comfortable with you. Just like the quote said that if she learns she will get a lot better with all kinds of folks. I think people should just try to understand a person before they automatically jump to conclusions.

I also think how you tied the Cunningham's into you're writing really set a better example. You cant judge somebody unless you've been in their situation before.

  10. I think the quote "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it,” means that you can’t automatically assume that people have it easy or hard just by looking at them. They may look extremely wealthy, but that might only be on the outside and people really do not understand what that person possibly had to go through to get their riches. It may have come easy, or it may have been incredibly difficult. When people hit a bad spot in their lives, like getting fired or just being in the wrong place, people don’t understand how bad or severe that case may be unless they’ve experienced it themselves. It also relates to when people are going through a rough patch and say “you wouldn’t understand unless you were in my shoes.” People judge other people based on their appearance, rather than how they’re actually feeling or going through. Just like with Miss Caroline, didn’t know about everyone in Maycomb like the people that resided in it. When Scout was explaining how Walter never took anything from anyone because he knew that he could never pay it back, Miss Caroline thought Scout was insulting him. In reality, Scout was telling it like it was and Miss Caroline didn’t know that. Scout doesn’t understand that Miss Caroline is new to Maycomb and doesn’t really know about the people who live there.
To me, this quote has a lot of meaning. I’ve seen many tv shows, like “Scream Queens,” where the main character, Chanel, judges everyone on their appearance, and doesn’t think twice about what they’re going through. She doesn’t really understand how badly people want to be in her sorority to be “popular.” She automatically turns everyone down who doesn’t match her idea of “perfection.” Chanel doesn’t even care about other people’s lives and tells them to grow up. An example is when Chanel #5’s boyfriend and twin brother died. Chanel doesn’t know about how people feel and won’t understand unless she “walks a mile in their shoes.”

  11. "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things form his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." I believe that this quote means that if you treat a person the way they do not deserved to be treated, you are wrong because you do not know what they have been through or what their situation is. Imagine if someone tried to tell you that you are doing something wrong but you can only do it a certain way. You would get mad because they do not know the reason behind you doing it that way. If you did the same thing to them you have to understand that they will get mad too. Everyone has their own story that maybe they do not want to share due to personal reasons or issues. Before you talk to someone make sure you think before what you say to someone because you don’t know why they might do the things they do. You will never truly know everything about someone because there are secrets people keep for fear they will be hated for it or judged. This reminds me of the fourth season of American Horror Story, Freak Show. The season is all about a show where “rejects” put on the show. They are all people who have been rudely disrespected because they are different. They would do anything to be normal but it gets to the point where people ask them to leave public places. This circus type show was their only home and they were like a family because they all knew each other’s struggles with fitting in. People would attend the show to laugh at these people who were “different”. They all felt safe around each other and protected each other because they knew nobody would understand them. It pays to get to know people because that one person sitting next to you could be your next best friend.

  12. I think Atticus's quote, "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." , means that you can’t judge a person until you know their side of the story or until you really know them. You have to understand how they think and why, and you can never really know that unless you are that person. In the story everyone says that Boo Radley is some sort of monster that eats pets and is ugly, but they are just telling what they have heard and they don’t really know. When he says that she could get along with all kinds of folk, I think he’s saying that if Scout knew how to act around certain people and how to talk to them kindly then she would get along better with them. If she knew what was really happening around her and took it into consideration before she spoke she wouldn’t offend people as much. Personally that’s what I think the quote means. A while ago I saw the movie concussion, and in it the football players all have problems like anger and they forget stuff, but they had no control of what they were doing. Later when Will finds the disease exists, one of the wives of the football player said that if they had known about it they would have tried harder to help. She didn’t understand why he was acting crazy, and she was his wife. She had a pretty good understanding of his personality until he started acting strangely. She couldn’t understand until Will spoke to the public about the disease he had found. By the end she did learn the “simple trick” to get along better with him but he had already died. But other people knew about it so they could get along better with the football players that had the disease.

    2. I completely agree with you Dan, you can't judge the people by the way they look, you need to experience being around them and their personality first. You won't ever be able really judge someone until you've known them for a long time because you won't learn everything about them after being friends with them a week.
with the way people are today they think they know people but they really don't. The sad part is, if you judge someone or are the person being judged, society looks down upon it.

  14. "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things form his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." I think this quote means that you can never really understand a person until you see things through their point of view. You have to go into their shoes and think what it is like to be them and think from their point of view. You have to consider things from their point of view before you can really judge them. You can’t go and judge a book by its cover and just assume things about them. You have to look at things in their shoes and see how they see things. You will never really understand people if you never walk around in their skin. Like you can’t just judge people how they are dressed or how they act it usually isn’t their fault. They could be poor and work really hard to get think they want and you can’t just judge them. You have to look at their background like when Walter Cunningham didn’t want to take Miss Caroline's money because he is poor but did not want to say anything. Scout put herself in that position and stood up for him. People will respect you more if you do that and you will make friends. You will get along with everybody.
Things like that happen everyday in life where you have to put yourself in their shoes. For example there could be someone that doesn’t have the nicest of things and you can’t go around judging people for that. You have to put yourself in their place and see what they have to go through. They might not even show what they are going through and always try to smile through things but you still have to put yourself in their situation. So you should always consider things from other peoples point of views.

  15. The quote, "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." means that you see the world the through different perspectives of people, you’ll be able to get along with them because you agree with them. You never fully understand a person until you see what they go through each and every day. Once you see that, you'll understand how and why that person acts the way they do everyday. Have you ever realized that we’re all on the same day, but each of us experience is differently? Seven billion people on this planet walk around each day experiencing the same day differently than I am. It actually blows my mind. We all look at the world differently, some of us take in nature while others destroy it. Just as the quote says, “...until you consider something from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” It's just amazing to know that no two minds think exactly alike in this world. In order to understand what someone is telling you, you need to see it the way they do. Through their own eyes. Even if you don't agree with it right away, just look to see what they think and say about it. Someone’s opinion might not be so bad afterall.
To me personally, I think this quote means to treat everyone equally. Don't dis someone over how they see things because as I said, we all see the world differently. For me to fully understand a person, I really need to see things through their eyes and have them explain to me why they look at it the way they do. This means that I cannot judge someone's outlook on the world because we all have our own opinions. A time where I saw this was in the movie Stand By Me. The character Chris Chambers has a reputation of a thief for stealing milk money, but he gave it back. after that incident he referred himself as, “just one of those low-life Chambers kids,” because of the family he came from. He didn’t fit the description that people thought of him. The only ones that knew the real him were his best friends, Gordie, Teddy, and Vern. In conclusion, before you diss someone else's point of view, just look at it through their eyes first.

You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This quote is very true. If you think someone is doing something wrong or saying something wrong it might not always be the case. They could just be doing or saying the wrong things in your point of view. For instance if you make a joke and it offends someone you might think they are overreacting and that the joke shouldn’t have bothered them much. If you put yourself in their position and even if you wouldn’t have reacted the same, their situation might have affected it also. You can’t judge anyone or think you know a lot until you see it from their position. Personally I really think this quote is very true and should be thought of by everyone. This quote strongly relates to the saying “Take a walk in my shoes” both basically tell people not to automatically assume and think that someone is wrong in their actions or words just because you personally think it is wrong. People should look at all situations from the other person’s position and don’t make assumptions. An example for me would be, I always thought people in the Middle East were wrong for hating the West and thought they had no reason to. But, when I learned about why they dislike us I realize that if I were in their position I would also dislike the West. I always thought that they had no reasons until I considered it from their position; then, I realized that their reasons for disliking us are justifiable. "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." is definitely true and should be listened to by everyone.

  17. "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things form his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." What this quote means is that you don’t judge somebody based on their physical appearance. You must understand them from the inside out in their lifetime. You are unique in your own way. But other people will look different, act and their beliefs will be different than yours. An example is with a character named Boo Radley in the book, “How to kill a mockingbird.” Everyone sees him as a strange and ugly person, and they tell rumors about him murdering people and eating animals raw. But what if those rumors aren’t true. What would happen if boo a nice and caring person was? But the main reason, is that you can’t judge a person on looks. It’s like the quote, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” You must know the person by taking to them and introducing yourself to them. If they are nice and friendly, you can make them your friend. But if they are mean and act like a bully then just walk away. This happened to someone at my school. In fourth grade, a new kid came to school. Everyone in lunch wanted to sit away from him. But I decided to sit with him and it was the best decision I made. He was really funny and nice, and was really good at making jokes. This quotes relates to the life we have now. Many people have done this before in their lifetimes. They judge someone based on their appearance and don’t know what their personality will be. This quote leads to real life situations. One of those is racism, etc. When you are older and you meet a stranger, don’t just assume that is bad based on appearance. Talk to them and know what their personality is.

  18. The quote, "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." means that to understand someone completely, you must see things through their eyes. You cannot judge someone on their opinions on things before you understand totally about what they're talking about. When Scout was told she could understand a person better if they walked around in their skin. I think the world would be a much different place if everyone considered what it would be like in someone else's body. Altogether, you must not judge someone based on what they believe or think before you 100% understand where they come from. Like the common saying says, “don't judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

What this quote means to me is that you should look at someone and automatically categorize them as different because of the way they look, talk or act. It is unfair to do so because the way the other person might see it is that we are just like in the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” When you look at someone you shouldn't treat them any different because of ht they look like or their race. The story took place during the Great Depression right when the civil rights movement was occurring. Everyone was segregated because people ever different races than others. It was unfair to see that being caucasian was essential to be treated as a human being. We are all people with the same values and rights as one another. In conclusion, showing that someone is different or has a different opinion is not the correct way to behave. If someone told you that you were wrong at that you had the wrong outlook on things, it would make you not want to see things differently and experience everything in different ways.

  19. A quote from the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” is "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it," could mean many different things to different people. I believe the quote means that do not be too quick to judge someone by their looks instead of there personality. You can’t just say something about someone without knowing who they really are. This quote is very similar to the quote “don’t judge a book by its cover,” meaning not to judge someone on there outside but on their inside. In the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Scout, Dill, and Jem are too quick to believe that Boo Radley is a psychopath. They think this because people told them that he poisoned his pecans, stabbed his father and and stares into people's windows at night. The three of them just believed it was true, but no one really knows its true. Boo Radley has never come out of the house, so no one knows the truth. So, Scout, Dill, and Jem shouldn't assume he is a psycho until they actually meet him.
This quote has a lot of meaning to me. My cousin is autistic, he has a twitchy eye and tilted head. Whenever we go out to eat or to hang out people people stare at him and whisper about him. People are too quick to judge his outside instead of his inside. If they did know him as well as I do they wouldn't be so quick to judge him. They would realize hes is a really nice, smart, funny, cool, creative, and etc. guy. From experiencing this with my cousin it makes me think twice about judging someone instead of really getting to know them first. I wish people could see who my cousin really is instead of his disability.

  20. The quote, "First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things form his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it" can mean many things. For starters, it’s basically saying that by knowing a small trick it can help you befriend more people. You can’t understand a person or how their feeling or what they’re going through, unless you put yourself in their shoes and try to understand it. For example, everybody thinks Boo Radley is crazy, weird, and many more things. However, they don’t really know anything about Boo Radley, they just go around spreading rumors about him that they heard from other people. They don’t know if their even true or not. That makes matters much worse too. Therefore by you understanding a simple trick of you putting yourself in other people’s shoes, you may understand their point of views on situations better, and that is why it’s extremely to understand.
This quote means a lot personally too me. I have many examples from my real life for example there’s this one girl who isn’t really cool, basically their considered “weird” for the way the dress or the way they look. However, I’m not like that I honestly don’t judge people based on their looks or how they dress. I never have either, so people may look at me weird when I talk to this person. I honestly don’t really care what other people think; their opinions are irrelevant to me. This person may have an extremely rough life and there may be explanations to why they do the things they do or the way they look. But people don’t spend the time to find out they just judge you based on your looks and the way you dress and it really isn’t right. The person may have the best personality ever and you would never know that because, you being you’re ignorant self never took the time to find out.

  21. Atticus is a real wise man and made a very excellent point to Scout. This quote really means something special to me because it’s so true, and it’s what I live by every day. It makes me a better person because when someone is not nice to me, I try to think that maybe something has happened to them whether they have family issues or just a bad day in general. To me, this quote means that you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover because you don’t know what their life is like. You don’t know what they’ve been through with their life so far or how bad it is for them, so we have no right to be critical towards people. No one deserves to be criticized; everyone deserves respect and care. Atticus was trying to say that we can understand people better if we stop and think about them. It’s probably hard for Scout to understand but the last thing Dill, Jem, and her should be doing is judging Boo Radley because something horrible must’ve happened to him if he has gotten to the point of jabbing scissors into his father’s legs, and that’s what they should realize. Another thing Atticus mentioned in his quote was to “climb in his skin and walk around in it.” It’s a good way to understand someone by trying to see their point of view or walk around in their shoes for a while, like imagining you’re living their life for a day. It’s similar to the “walk a mile in my shoes” quote.
I can relate this quote to my own life. There was a time when my father’s very good friend that we’ve known for a long time was diagnosed with cancer. Sometime after that my mom, my sister, and I went to go visit him. When we walked in he looked very skinny and frail with no meat on his bones. It didn’t bother me that much because it was still the same person we always knew but it took a little time to adjust to this new difference. Little did I know he was put on intense chemo treatment, which made him weak. This opened my eyes, and after that I didn’t notice his feeble arms but just saw him for who he was.

    1. I agree with you Julia. It makes me a better character on days where life doesn't go my way. It sucks but its part of life.
