  1. I do believe that music is poetry because in some songs, music does rhyme but it also brings out feelings just like in poems. Poems are used to express feelings through words. In some ways people say “when words fail, music speaks.” And music really does speak, but so does poems. There are some people who can’t speak their words or put them in the right order when they say it. They write it down and it somehow transforms into a wonderful example of art. Most musical artists speak their frustrations through song lyrics and it can be classified by poetry. Take the music out from the background and you have words bring spoken in a rhythmical pattern. It is poetry, I am not saying that every word you speak is poetry but the song is organized and if you added some expression and took out the music you would have a piece of poetry. In most Broadway songs, words rhyme and could be classified as a poem. For example, “I Can Hear the Bells,” uses multiple rhyming of words and demonstrates a scene of a girl imagining her wedding with a guy. It shows a lot of sensory details, mentioning all 5 senses. Along with the rhyming of words, it is a poem but the words are put into a rhythmic pattern and added to instrumentation. The song mentions multiple references about the dates leading up to her wedding day. She walks around asking people if they can hear the wedding bells. They think she is crazy but she keeps going on how one simple tap on the shoulder from this one guy leads them to their wedding day. Music is used to connect as well as words so I do believe that music is a form of poetry.

    1. I agree with you Danielle. Poems are used to bring out deep feeling and emotions, and music does that exact same thing. The artists of the songs write about how they are feeling, which is the same thing writer of poems do. Each express the their feeling to let everyone know how they feel about certain things and what they think.

  2. I think music is a form of poetry. Music is a way of expressing your feelings and it connects people together just like poems. I think that music is a more effective form of poetry if you decide to be persuasive when reading or writing poems. Whether it’s about being sad, or trying to get a boys / girls attention, so many people from across the world can share that one feeling from the song. When you break down some song lyrics, not all, they have a special message. Songs use metaphors and are in a stanza / line format. Poetry can sometimes rhyme, so can songs, they just have beats to them. Although some songs aren’t the most appropriate, the artist expresses their feelings and the lyrics have messages behind them too. They might not be the best form of poetry, but it is how the artist feels. When you express your feelings, make a poem, then put a beat behind it, it forms a song.
I have many favorite songs, but I think my favorite at the time is “Impossible,” by James Arthur. The songs talk about a heartbreak. “Tell them I was happy and my heart is broken. All my scars are open, tell them what I hoped would be impossible.” The lyrics are just really powerful in the sense of someone being in love, then having a bad break up like the last and now he’s unhappy again. You can just feel the sadness he put into the song, and the frustration he was feeling. Poetry expresses feelings and this song did it very well.

  3. When I think of poetry, I also think of music. Poetry is definitely music. It is lyrical poetry. They are both forms of art. Some poems rhyme and some songs rhyme. They both also try to bring out some emotion or feeling. Music and poetry have a meaning or some kind of story behind them. Most artists have a meaning when they write a song or a poem. Then, in class we were learning about poetry. We talked about how it uses sensory details and we even had to write our own poems. I think all poems appeal to our five senses. Music also appeals to our five senses. When we hear or read a poem we think about what it means or we relate it to a time in our life where that has happened. It's the same story when it comes to music. You do the same thing by thinking and comparing. Sometimes it's a happy poem or song you relate to and sometimes it's an upsetting one. That can completely change the mood of you by reading something like that. Now, I have many favorite ones, but I think my favorite is “The Weight,” by Shawn Mendes. I love Shawn Mendes and I love all his songs, but this one has a lot of meaning. It is about his girlfriend cheating on him with one of his best friends. I think it is a really powerful song and you can feel the emotion he put into it. The song is like poetry because there are poems with these types of topics. So yes, I think poetry is music.

    3. I agree with you Brianna. There are many similarities between poetry and music. Some can rhyme or appeal to senses. Music is definetly poetry.

  4. I definitely view music as poetry. This is because poetry can relate to anything and the same goes for music. A poem can be sad, meaningful, happy, silly, or about romance and drama. Music can be all of those things as they are expressed as words. Music and poems may have a certain rhythm or tune it's supposed to be said in. This really makes the two alike. Writers and music artists have to get inspiration from something that they have a passion about or something that has recently happened to them. A poem can be about heartbreak, and likewise, so can a song. The writers and music artists express their feelings in whatever they write. The emotion in both can be so strong in a poem or a song that it empowers someone to do something. The lyrics in songs or even the stanzas in poems all have some type of meaning that the writer or artist wants the audience to feel. Music and poems can also influence the way you feel. When listening to an upbeat song, you feel cheery and happy. The same goes for poems. When you listen to a sad song, you feel upset and sad and the same with a sad poem. Music and poems both have the effect of changing how someone feels.
Although I have many, I have to say that my favorite song as of right now is “Hello” by Adele. I really like this song because it’s a lot different from the other popular songs that she’s had like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Set Fire to the Rain.” This song is a sad, slow song that has a lot of meaning to the listeners. The song is about her trying to reconnect with someone from the past. She put so much emotion into the song that it really makes the lyrics mean something to her and try to make everyone else feel the same way.

  5. I do think music is poetry. I think this because just like poetry, music uses sensory details and rhyming to make a song. Just take any song you know and look through the lyrics of it. You will definitely find that at least somewhere in there, hidden are sensory details and descriptions you never saw before. Just take any song you know and look through the lyrics of it. You will definitely find that at least somewhere in there, hidden are sensory details and descriptions you never saw before. Also, I’m sure we’ve all realized that it rhymes. Also, I’m sure we’ve all realized that it rhymes. And, I think that honestly, music IS poetry, but just sung in different pitches. For example, take any song that you could ever think of with lyrics. Now just read the lyrics without singing. See? It’s a poem, and you didn't even realize. And yes, that’s true. 2. I can see what you are trying to say here, and what you are saying i can completely agree with. Within each song there is definatley something to do with senses. You can really find the meaning of that but listening carefully and really breaking down the song to find those sesory details.

  6. I agree that music is a form of poetry, because poetry just needs to be a way to express feelings. I doesn’t need to rhyme to be poetry, as long as it had expressed feelings it can be considdered poetry. Poetry can be used to paint a picture in peoples head, and so can music. Author’s that write music, pick and choose each word that they say to paint the picture that they want you to think of. For example in Micheal Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” Micheal Jackson whats you to think about the world around you and if your not happy then you should chance it yourself. He says you should not wait for someone else to come along and fix all of your problems, he beleives that you must solve them yourself. And if you think this little song just came up in his head you are wrong, I bet that he sat down and thought about a message that he could write about, and he choose what to say so you would get the correct meaning of the song. I don’t listen to much music, however I do know that each song is trying to get a point across. I have heard a song that my dad listens to its called “When I Get Were I’m Going” it’s a song abot being with your loved ones after you die. The song is trying to tell you that when a person passes away its okay because they are in a better place with the people they love and want to be with. This is why I agree that music is poetry.

  7. I think music is an example of poetry. The reason being this is because in music, the lyrics are each like a line of a poem, and each line has a meaning. Also, the words in songs usually rhyme, includes some figurative language, and uses imagery for you to use your sensory details. Each song has a meaning to it that it’s trying to explain to the listener. Music is always describing something it's trying to tell the listener, just like how poems describe in depth about something having your senses being used. They all try and teach you a lesson in life by making learning this lesson enjoyable and so you can feel as if you are being guided by this lesson and to use it in life. For example, the song “Firework” by Katy Perry is a form of poetry. Each line of lyrics in the song describes something and has your senses into effect. The lyrics include figurative language in it as well, such as similes and metaphors, describing that line into full effect. Also, the lyrics make you feel as if you are facing the problem they are explaining in the song. You can feel as if you are feeling the problems they are singing in the song. Poetry and music both have a deep meaning to them. They each describe the event going on in them so you can find and discover what its inner meaning is and means. They each describe in depth of its meaning so you can better understand it and learn from it to change the way you see life. Music in our everyday life is affecting us since its all a form of poetry and they all are trying to explain its meaning and the lesson it's trying to teach us to understand and better our lives.

  8. When I think of poetry, I think of music. I think music is definitely a form of poetry because many times it rhymes and has lots of descriptions appealing to your senses. Lots of songs are very deep is meaning just like many poems are. They sometimes use imagery and lines to cause or show emotions within the story or poem. Some poems rhyme and some don’t just like music. A lot of rap songs rhyme and other types of song may or may not rhyme. There are also many writing mechanics in both music and poetry. A few would be imagery, similes, metaphors, and more. Both poems and songs can have deeper meaning inside of them. They can both represent a problem or a dream someone has. Sometimes without music in songs the lyrics can be poems themselves. One of my favorite songs is the song Happy by Pharrell Williams. I really like the song because it gives a happy mood. Just like a poem, it can have certain feelings to the song and the song Happy has a really joyful and light mood. The song means a lot to me. It portrays that you should be happy no matter what. It also says that you should have a positive attitude towards everyone and everything.
Music is just like poetry. Sometimes music is exactly poetry just with music added. The two are very similar because of the writing tools both usually have. Also, they both describe things really well and have lots of meaning in the words.

  9. Do you think music is Poetry? I would definitely agree that music is poetry. It tells a story, an opinion, perhaps an emotion or feeling. It has the power to move us; such songs are an art form. Most songs are a list of poems mixed together. Each little poem tells a small detail to the main topic the singer is taking about. Both art forms have the ability to capture a single experience or moment in time. Poetry and music are as close as humanity comes to a direct expression of the soul. Consider what a poem evokes, passion, love, hate, anger, loss, sorrow. Music, even without lyrics can convey the same thing. When you add the lyrics, a story emerges from the music. Poetry like music exists to allow for the expression of human emotions and very often, people can connect through music or poetry by understanding a shared feeling that is difficult to express.
I don’t really have a favorite. I really like listening to a lot of songs. The songs that I listen to have different feeling to each song. Like, when I feel happy, I listen to a song that brings my joy up and keeps a smile on my face. When I feel sad or angry, I listen to a songs that keeps me in that same state of emotion. In each song, the poems tell a story that I like to hear and imagine in my mind. Like each song uses sensory detail for a better imagery so I can get a better picture in my mind. That is why I don’t have a favorite song.

  10. I think that music is poetry.Poetry has to be music because it rhymes like a poem and has many sensory details. In every song there is always a part where the lyrics start rhyming.Songs in general just sound like fast moving poems no matter what style of music it is.Music has sensory details like poems and it has the same structure as poems. If you look at an example of lyrics it looks like a poem. The lyrics have stanzas and are in the same format as poems. Also some songs are examples of poems. There can be songs that are haikus or odes. The main thing that poems and music have in general is that the sensory details create a picture in our mind of what they are singing or writing about and to express someones feelings on everyday life or on a topic. In the song Walking on Sunshine the character is happy about someone she likes writing back to her and her celebrating. This song is somewhat like poetry because it has sensory details and explains how the person is feeling just like how a poet expresses how he or shes feeling when writing poetry.Poetry and music might not sound the same all the time but they have the same purpose and meaning which is why i think music as poetry.

  11. I do think that poetry is music. I do for a couple of reasons. in a poem authors use sensory details throughout it. What this does is it creates a picture in your head of what you think the author is writing about. Mainly in every poem you will read the author uses some sort of sensory detail to express feelings or something else. Music can be tied with poems because it expresses feeling by using senses. the 5 senses are taste. touch, hear, smell, sight. In many songs they will be talking or singing about stuff that will use sensory details. but it is up to you whether you create what it looks like or not. Everybody is thinking about something different. I guarantee that you will not see the same things as another person because you have different working minds that come up with totally different things. authors of songs will always come up with new sensory language to use in their songs but i know it's not the same as any other authors sensory details. I really don't have a favorite song but i know that songs have a lot of meaning in them. You May not notice it but if you really listen to the song closely you will know that the lyrics has sensory language in it. It may be talking about life, nature, special events, etc. When i listen to a song i really think about what the songwriter is trying to propose throughout his song. Is he trying to tell you something, or is it just something about him or something that he came up with

  12. I think music is a form of poetry. I think that for a few reasons. I think that because in most songs people try to express their emotions and feelings just like poems do. They also try to connect to people and poems do the same thing. Sometimes songs also rhyme too so I think poetry is music also. Every line in a song has meaning too it no matter what is says. The artist that write their music usually relate it to their lives and authors of poetry do the same. It is just a more enjoyable form of poetry that people listen almost everyday. Music also has the same form as poetry too. They use figurative language like similes and metaphors. They also use sensory details sometimes too to describe different things. Also music and poetry both use stanzas when the artist or author write their music or poems. Finally every song has a meaning to it or a lesson. They try to tell you something or teach you something so that you can better the world or even just relate to it. Even though it might not seem like it is poetry it is just a more enjoyable form.
So all in all I think music is a form of poetry. It describes things, has a meaning behind it, and is written the same way. It is just poetry with a beat behind it to make it more fun to listen to. It is sung in different voices and beats to make it more enjoyable instead of reading poetry. So I agree that music is a form of poetry.

  13. I do believe that all music is poetry. This is because music and poetry both have a story behind them. It could be a love story, it could be about nature, it could be about standing up for your beliefs, it could be funny, and a lot more. It shows how a person feels about themselves, society, government, another person, or thing. The author or writer speaks through all of their works. Example for love story is they could write about there one true love and how they broke their heart. for nature they could talk about how we are ruining the earth. An example for standing up for your beliefs is when they talk about what they believe in. An example for writing something funny is when they write a joke in their song or poem. I have many favorite songs but one of my favorites is “Smile” by Mikky Ekko. The song is about life being short, and there will be hard times, but you need to just keep smiling and get through it. This song is one of my favorite songs because I really like the artist who sings it and I love the beat of the song. I also love the meaning behind the song. It just make me want to smile and appreciate all I have in life. The song connects to my life in ways and days where I am just having a really bad day. The song helps me clear my mind and help me appreciate all the good things going on, not the bad things. This song just really helps me be happy and smile.

  14. I believe that music is poetry because they have many similarities. Some poems and songs bring out emotions and feelings that people go through every now again. For example, your mood reflects the type of music you’d listen to or poem you’d read in that particular time. It also releases a message as you break it down to understand it more clearly. Some poems can rhyme as well as songs, but not all of them do. Both forms can express deep inner feelings and thoughts about past experiences or events that have occurred in the author or musician’s life. They also have the same format of style as stanza or lines as they are being written. Both forms can also obtain sensory details, which are the 5 senses throughout the words or lyrics.
The song I chose was “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper. This song has a deep meaning and if you read into the lyrics, you can imagine what is going on through the sensory details she uses throughout the lyrics. When I listen to this song, I think about an old relationship where they used to share memories together. The line, “Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick, and think of you, caught up in circles, confusion is nothing new.” It makes me think about her after a breakup and she’s trying to figure out why it had to come to this. She thinks of him while he’s probably off doing his own thing now without her by his side. Lying on her bed confused as to why their relationship had to come to this as millions of thoughts circle around her head bringing up the worst thoughts of all. She expressed the way she felt throughout the song and it showed her emotions as well. Music and poetry bring out the best emotions in people.

  15. I would say that music is a form of poetry. One reason why I think so is because each line in a song always has a meaning. Songs usually rhyme and have a nice beat to go with it. Also, songs can include figurative language to help you create an image of what is happening. Also, songs can have imagery to tell you what is happening and what the song talks about. Songs can also have a meaning behind them that can teach the listener. Some can have life lessons within them that can be from their personal experience put to rhyme together. My favorite song is “We don’t believe what’s on tv” by Twenty One Pilots. This is my favorite song because i think that it has a great meaning to it. It has figurative language and also creates an image in your head on how we see society. They talk about how we don’t believe what the television is saying because that’s what we want our life to be like but we all know it can’t happen. It’s got a great message on how everyone wants to live but we all can’t. Also, it creates imagery as your listening because a lot of people can relate to the song. Knowing we can’t have a perfect life like the people on tv gives us the mindset of how we’ll never be like that but we’ll always have people by our sides to be there with us no matter what. The song to me also means that there are thing worth being there for. Even if you don’t have the perfect life, you still make life to the fullest even though it’s not as perfect like on how the tv makes it look. So this is what i think about the song and what it means to me.

  16. Music is poetry. It has words that make you feel emotions and it gives sensory details. Music tells a story. It is a way to get you to feel what the person who wrote the song is feeling. It is there to speak to you when nothing is being said. It's there to help you feel things even if it does occur to you. Poems, as well as music, uses sensory details. It appeals to your taste, touch, sight, hearing, and smell. In each lyric or line of the poem, you feel something or create an image of what's being said in your head. Everyone's image is different. It all depends on how you interpret it. Some people will interpret it deeper than others and relate to it while some other people might only feel the slightest thing. It all determines on how you recess and imagine the story.
My favorite song right now is the song, "Infinity" by One direction. It is their fourth song off their new album. I love the song because it speaks to me in a different way. It tells about heartbreak. I've never truly experienced heartbreak before but the song is so powerful to me, that it feels like I have. The lyrics get the point across very easily and the imagery used in the lyrics give me a clear picture of what they're explaining. Overall, I agree that music is poetry. It is a way to express emotions through your senses. They both create images in your head upon the story that they tell.

  17. I do think music is poetry, however I don't think every genre or song is poetry. My favorite poetry song is “Mockingbird” by Eminem. I like this song because it has good meaning to it. Also, it rhymes quite often and even when it doesn’t rhyme it is still a form of poetry. Just like poems can express feelings or have a certain mood to them, so can songs. For example, this song makes me very pumped up and ready to go where as some songs are dull and make me want to go to sleep. This song flows together very well like a nicely written poem. Also, it appeals to some of my five senses, and creates an image in my mind. Therefore, songs can be examples of imagery like poems. Mockingbird is a very good example of poetry and I enjoy it like poems. Poems and songs are so similar because songs are longer versions of poems that are sung certain way instead of written.
This song means alot to me. For example, it shows how a busy dad still has time to spend time with kids and shows sympathy for them when he made a mistake. This is an example of the type of father I would be. If I was busy I would still make time to spend with my kids. One line says “ I remember back one year when I had no money, mommy wrapped up the presents and stuck them under the tree and said some were from me.See daddy had a job, but his job was to keep the food on the table for you and mom.” If I was a father and no money for presents because I worked hard to keep food on the table for my family and had no extra money, I wouldn’t feel any guilt. This song inspires me a lot and shows what kind of father I would be.

  18. I do think of music as poetry because, songs can either rhyme or flow nicely together. Poem’s help you write how you are feeling. It can help you express yourself in many other ways. You can express yourself in writing but poems and songs are a little bit deeper. A lot of music is about how the singer is feeling; they are able to explain how they are feelings in words that flow together. In music and poems you can express yourself and have people read it or listen to it and be able to relate to you. One of my favorite songs is Don’t by Ed Sheeran. I love this song because; he talks about what actually had happen to him but in a singsong way. I personally can’t relate to this song but, I’m sure a lot of other people can since being cheated on is common but wrong. Anyway in the song it talks about how he met someone and how they weren’t just looking for a friend, that the person wanted to be something more than friends. He talks about all the good and amazing times they had together. Then he talks about how she cheated on him while they were literally in the same hotel with one of his closest friends. This song is extremely moving and upsetting. I’m sure there’s poems out there as well that talk about someone cheating on them; therefore poems are like songs. All in all, this song was extremely popular probably since a lot of people could relate to being cheated on and their best friend being the person stabbing them in the back.

  19. Yes, I do think music is poetry. I believe this because they have so much in similar. For example, they both rhyme. Most poems do rhyme, and same with songs. Especially when it comes to rap songs. They rhyme almost every single line with another. Another thing music and poetry have in common is that they both have a similar format to one another. They are both in stanzas. Another example of something music and poetry have in common is that they use sensory details. Sensory details are one of the most important things when it comes to poems, and in music. They help paint a picture in your head which gives more meaning to the song. Without sensory details music and poetry would be a lot more bland and less appealing. However, since we have it, it makes everything a lot more appealing, catchy, and definitely paints a picture in the reader's or listener's head. There are a total of five sensory details. The first one is sight, you describe the sight of something. Next is smell, the way something smells. Then comes hearing, what something hears like. Next comes taste, what it tastes like. Finally is touch. The way something feels. Without these key components music and poetry would not be as appealing to people as they are. Without them it would be so bland. Almost in every single poem you will see some form of sensory detail. Same goes for music. With how much music and poetry have in common, I don’t know how you wouldn’t say that music is poetry. Music, in my opinion, is definitely a form of poetry.

  21. Yes music is type of poetry. I think this because they are basically the same thing. With a poem you express your feelings and such. Its the same thing with music except it is song or played. They both usually in some parts of them. Like a rap song is a perfect example of when it rhymes. Also poems and songs are written in similar format. They both cant be to long or too short. And depending on what kind of poem or song your doing you have to do different things. Like for instance when you right a sonate its not the same as a haiku. And with music would you hear a rapper singing gospel? No everything has its own niche and follow rules. Also poems express great emotion and so do music. It is a way to express your inner thoughts and feelings in a creative way. Also poems have many styles like free verse or a sonate . Music has over 20 genres including rock, jazz , rap, and pop. So as you can see music is poetry
A song that means a lot to me is "Guts Over Fear" by Eminem. In this he shows that you have to have to trust your guts and not to fear. It also shows how everyone doubted him and said he is bad and ho you should harness the hate and turn it into something good. Also how you shouldn't be scared to stand up for yourself and to not feel bad. As you can see music is poetry.
