After writing your short story and peer editing others, do you think this is true explain why or why not...

  1. After writing the short stories, I believe that the quote, “As a writer, you ask yourself to dream while awake,” is true. It is your story so you make it the way you want it, it could be something you dream of or something you want to happen but you know it can’t so what you do is write it down. You make it yours. It is your story nobody else’s, kind of like it’s your dream and only your dream only. No one is going to know it’s a dream unless you state it. So writing is kind of like asking your mind to dream while being awake because it comes from your imagination. Often if I go to bed with something on my mind, it’s usually in my dream. I can’t help it, so when I write it’s often something I’m thinking about or it’s based off something I’m thinking about. So writing with your imagination is like writing with your dreams but your dreams are in your mind. Your dreams are based off of your imagination. Your writing could be boring, but it’s because you’re choosing for it to be boring. You aren’t adding in your imagination. So kind of like there’s some nights you don’t have dreams at all or they are boring, that is writers block, you can’t think of anything. So you have to use your imagination, to help you get past the writer’s block, to have a dream. The next time you write, think about your dreams, they wouldn’t be so creative or interesting, or even weird without your imagination. You were born with it for a reason, use it.

    1. Danielle, I agree from where you're coming from. Everyone has a creative mind and nobody should waste their creativity and imagination.

    2. Danielle, I totally agree with your response to your quote. Your dreams do make your stories more creative and interesting. Also, about how using your imagination can help you come up with creative ideas.

    3. I agree with you Danielle. Your imagination is what makes up all the stories you create. If you don't use the imagination, your story could be a little boring. You should always be creative in all your stories. Creativity is what makes them interesting. Your dreams are full of creativity, and so can your stories.

  2. After writing my story, and peer editing other people’s stories, I do agree with the quote. It reads: “As a writer, you ask yourself to dream while awake.” This is true. What it means to dream while awake is to come up with ideas. Have visions with details. Just like dreaming. As I was writing, just as I dream, I tried to come up with good things to imagine, and write about. I tried to dream while awake, and just “paint” the picture using the descriptive words I have in my vocabulary. I also think this is true because as I was writing, I went into what some people call “the zone”, or just really concentrated. When you dream, you are very concentrated in what’s happening, because most of the time, we think it’s real life. So that’s another way of dreaming while awake. Finally, I also think we ask of ourselves to dream while awake because writing is very boring. Nobody wanted to write the 8 paragraph essays in class over the past 3 days to begin with! For example, I’m trying to get myself to dream while awake right now, for something to think of to get my mind off this horrible, excruciating work. While writing the essay, I thought the same thing: “What if I could just try to dream while awake, and pretend I’m actually working so I could get away from this hell… this hell of writing an essay for no reason”. So yes, all in all, I do believe the quote is true. In my opinion, the last example is the most weight in the idea that it’s true. After all, opinions can’t be wrong, can they? :)

  3. After writing my short story and peer editing others, I think that the quote, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake,” is true. I think this quote means that you have to use your imagination when you’re writing something. When you use your imagination, you can create awesome things and believe that impossible things can happen. This quote basically means that you have to dream with your eyes open, which is imagination. It also means that whenever you write, you have to use your imagination, or dream while awake, to make the story interesting, funny, or suspenseful. Imagination will make your story interesting and worth-reading because you are basically writing what you are dreaming or imagining. Your words are what you imagine or dream about because you are taking things you think about that may be interesting and turn them into words that turn into a story. Whenever you go to sleep, thoughts flood your mind as dreams start to begin when you fall asleep. These dreams are caused by imagination and what you imagine within that day. The things you think about during the day help you imagine things at night. When you use these thoughts, and turn them into words, you can create a creative and unique story. These imaginations and thoughts in your mind are so vivid and descriptive that you can explain something so well just by thinking about it and imagining it in your mind. Your imagination is valuable and it can make and describe amazing things and when you’re writing, that’s what makes your story, your story and what makes it unique.

  4. Aimee Bender once said "As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake” I feel like this could go 50/50 based on what your writing about. If your writing about the Holocaust and WWII you don’t need to dream because everything you write should be a fact and should be able to be proven. If a person is reading a book about the history of Europe for a histoty assiment they don’t exspect their to be opinion, just facts. Because it they read an unreliable sources paper they have a good chance at doing bad on yhat assiment. But on the other hand, if your writting about a heroic adventure you can have a challenge with trying to think of ideas. This is why most authors choose to separate the amount of work into multiple days and multipy times just to thing and not wrte. This helps they generate new ideas that can inturn make the story much better. They must dream up ideas and fasanat far away places, and magical creatures that will make the book more enjoyable for the reader. So when Aimee says that “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake” she is not right nor wrong. It just matters on the typ of reading that you looking at.

  6. Aimee Bender once said,“As a writer you ask yourself to dream wide awake.” After writing the short story, I think this is true. I think that you can imagine more without having to be sleeping. Writers have to picture things so much more clear to describe them in a book. They have to be able to describe their great ideas in a way we can understand them. Sometimes it takes a few days to write something. It took us four days to write our essays. Everyday you could come up with a new or even better idea, so that's why sometimes it takes time. One day you might want to write a funny story, and the next you might want to write a sad story. So, that's where your imagination comes in. You don't have to be sleeping to have an imagination. If you really think about something, you can make it into a whole story. For example, if you have a rabbit; you can make the whole story about the rabbit flying into candyland. You just have to concentrate and use your imagination while being awake. Then, when other people read the books they will get more of an idea of what they were saying. They have to be able to see things and think about the meaning of what you wrote. When you dream, you see and think about all these ideas. If you really think, you can do the same thing while you are awake. So, when you have a good idea, don't think that you have to be sleeping to dream. As Aimee Bender said, “...........dream wide awake.”

  7. After writing my short story and peer editing others I agree with the quote ”As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake”.I agree with this quote because authors need an imagination to write good, detailed stories. The best stories come from authors who spend months by dreaming while awake or imagining things and putting them on paper. Also authors want to dream while awake because then they find enjoyment out of writing.Nobody not even authors want to write essays or books from a rubric, they want to write on their own terms. They want to put their imagination or thoughts and views on paper. The best stories that were ever written sounded like they came from someone's imagination. Also you have to be in that type of mood to make a good story and for your thoughts to flow. Also when your dreaming that's when people come up with the best thoughts or ideas. Also when dreaming that's when people come up with the most imaginative ideas.I know when I have to write an essay off a rubric I hate that, but when I dream while awake I actually write well and the thoughts for my story or essay come smoothly. When an author dreams while he or she is awake that means the author is wired to writing. An author needs that to write a story that makes sense or be creative and in depth.Without the way of thinking while you dream while your awake there wouldn't be any creativity or imagination in literature. Dreaming while your awake is necessary to write a book and that's how I wrote my short story. So what think Aimee Bender is saying is for authors to get into that way of thinking when writing a book.

  8. Aimee Bender said " As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake." I feel this quote could go different ways. If you're writing your own story about a dinosaur you can make it your own and just how you want it. Just like a dream. You can make your own story any way you want. But on the other hand you can't write a book on 9/11 and dream and give false information and dream . If you do that you will be giving false information and that kind of book/ story should be all facts. So in some cases you can dream and write and make it unique. But for others you have to be truthful. After writing my story I realized i did dream while writing. I did because I just had visions on what was happening and what was gonna happen just like a dream. I used my imagination just like i would if I was in a dream. Also writing like you're in a dream makes writing more interesting. Like who really wants to write a story. So you dream and you make it your own world and you can do anything to you want. So it is enjoyable to you and the reader. So when you write a short story or something of fiction you should always dream while writing. But when writing non fiction you should base your story off facts. So I am half and half on the quote by Aimee Bender “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.”

  9. After writing my short story, I think that that the quote, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.” Said by Aimee Bender means that you ask yourself to set your mind free and let your creative juices flow as you write. You engage your imagination, you allow yourself to write down any idea that you have that comes to mind and think about things that you want to happen in real life. When I start to write, I get a lot of creative ideas that come to my mind and I always have to write them down even if it doesn’t go with my story right away. Another thing that comes to my mind when I think about this quote, is dreaming while you’re asleep. Normally, when you fall asleep with something on your mind you wind up dreaming about it and what might happen, some of the dreams could be good or bad depending on what you’re thinking about. The same happens with your writing as well, it can either be good or bad. Some people get stumped when they’re brainstorming for a new writing they’re planning out because they’re overthinking it too much. This happens to me sometimes when I want to try and make a good writing but my mind goes blank. Overthinking keeps your mind contained in a box and doesn’t let your imagination free, “My Mom has always told me that your best writing will come from thinking outside the box!. Sometimes you get your best ideas when you’re barely thinking about anything, or maybe you get your best ideas when you’re asleep. In conclusion, your best dreams come to you while you’re writing a story.

  10. After writing my short story and peer editing others, I think the quote, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake,” is true. You have to get an idea for a story from an event happening and then putting your imagination into it. Imagination is the ability of the mind to be creative, and basically dreaming with your eyes open. Without imagination books would be boring, and no one wants a boring book. Being boring isn’t fun, but with imagination anything could happen. It can keep your readers on the edge of their seat, and make them want to wish the book never ended. They imagine things after they finish the chapter of what could happen next, all because you had a creative idea while dreaming while awake. Without your imagination, or the dream you had with your eyes open, maybe your story wouldn’t have that plot twist of the sister dying, or the dad being the killer. It’s those parts where your imagination came into play and something great happened.

As a writer you dream while awake, it builds your story and it expands your mind as a writer, making more ideas for other stories. I think the quote is true true because most stories wouldn’t have happened without the writer dreaming while awake.

  11. After reading the quote " As a writer , you ask yourself to dream while awake" I believe that it is true. Because of the writers use their imagination and creativity that it took to make a book or even a hook that makes the reader actually think about what the author was thinking at that moment right then and near. Its just like when you are sitting there day dreaming this is one reason why famous writers are famous now I remember reading the tells tell heart when it was all in his imagination when he heard the heart beating but it was just imagination. Just like when you are sitting down laying in bed and you think about something or when you are sleeping and you start to dream its basically the same thing I do it but i don't realize like when i imagine me achieving my goal in life I think about what i have to do to get there and its normal for people but some people call it day dreaming and to Aimee Bender she calls it dreaming while being awake

  12. The quote “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake” is true. I think this because not everybody's ideas or stories are the same. You are your own person and we all come up with different ideas. Not everyone is the same is what i am trying to say. What this quote mean is that as you dream nobody will know what you are dreaming of or once dreamed because i am pretty sure that all dreams are different in some sort of way. Nobody will know what you are dreaming of in less you state it and tell the person what you are thinking so to say. I picture this almost as daydreaming. Let's be honest, everybody daydreams for two reason. They are either bored or thinking whatever is going on in their surroundings or they are either thinking about deep thoughts. For example, when we were writing our short story we really had to think and bring those deep thoughts through our mind and put it on paper. In my life i do not get many chances where i actually get to write what I am deeply thinking about. this quote seriously can take part in many people's lives today.

  13. “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.” was a famous quote by Aimee Bender. I think this quote is very true for everyone who writes. When you write a story you want your story to be perfect, creative, fun, scary, or different like a dream. If you have a finished story you want it to flow really well like a dream would. When writing a story you want to be creative and open your imagination which is what happens in dreams sometimes, you can have tons of different dreams with different endings and different themes. So, if you can “dream” while writing a story you can write the story very smoothly and make it a good story. When I write I story I try to go into a mindset where I don’t really have to think about what happens next I just let the story flow. This is how a dream happens too it just continues and you don’t have to think about it. If I ever write I always try to “dream” the story and let it just flow onto the paper. I open my imagination and write down what comes to my head. If your story is just words on paper it will be boring because it might not flow or be creative like a dream. The quote “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.” is very true and applies to writing and would help anyone who is writing creatively. Put a dream on paper to make it a good, creative story.

  14. Aimee Bender once said, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while you’re awake.” After writing our short stories I think this is really true. You want to be as creative as possible when you write your stories. You want to dream while you’re awake for you get many ideas as possible. Also because when you’re dreaming it feels like you are really there but you’re not. That is how you want the reader to feel when they are reading your stories. You want to put the reader in the story and make it feel like it is really happening. Another reason I think it is true because when I am writing I often get stuck a lot and I don’t know what to write. I wish I could dream while I was awake for I could get more ideas to write about. It is impossible to write a story with a boring imagination. The story wouldn’t be any good you have to be creative and dream. Your story will not be any good then. That is a reason I think stories that take a long time to write are good because they have time to think and dream up things to write about. They try to make it feel like you are in the story and keep you interested. Writers always want to be creative as possible when they write. If they aren’t their stories will not be any good. So in conclusion I think Aimee Bender’s quote is completely true. You always ask yourself to dream while you’re awake.

  15. The quote “As a writer you ask yourself to dream, while awake” by Aimee Bender, to me means that when you’re sleeping you're dreaming of a story with your eyes close; however when you’re a writer you're asking yourself to make up a story while you're awake. After writing my story and peer editing others this quote is extremely true. First off, while I was writing my story I had a hard time thinking of things to write about. Then I remembered that before I go to sleep I think of something I would like to happen about. Then I just close my eyes and dream about it. After I thought about it I just realized after reading this quote, I can dream while I’m awake even if my story isn’t about something I want to happen. A dream could always end terribly or go wrong. Also, in my friend's story I peer reviewed, if you think about it they were dreaming while they were awake also. They made a story with their eyes wide open, writing a really interesting story. I mean of course some parts in their story they wouldn’t to actually happen to them in real life. However, that’s what made it interesting dreams don’t have to be good. According to Merriam Dictionary, the actual definition of a dream is, “an idea or vision that is created in your imagination and that is not real.” Therefore a lot of people always think that dreams are always good but dreams are just an imagination. A writer is literally somebody imagining while they're awake. All in all, this quote is really true, and after I wrote my story and peer edited others I understand how this quote makes sense to a lot of writers.

  16. Aimee Bender once said “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.” After writing and peer editing others stories, I think this quote is true because when you're writing, you have to get really creative in what you’re saying. You come up with some of your best ideas when you’re awake, so the quote is saying that when you’re dreaming you can come up with some of your best works. Also, that writing about dreams can set your mind to new heights. Writing about crazy experiences. As you’re writing, dreaming can really transport your mind to new places. It’s like putting yourself in the same situation. Dreams can also lead to some of the best ideas for creative writings. Writers dream about new places and characters to come up with some of the greatest stories ever told. Harry Potter is one example of great dreams. J.K. Rowling dreamt about a world where wizards went to an imaginary place called Hogwarts. Her stories about this imaginary world has gone to be one of the most popular book series. She draws in her audience with an imaginary world that people wish existed in the real world. So definitely dreaming can lead to writers coming up with amazing stories. From coming up with my own story, it really got me dreaming about different ideas that i could use for my story. Dreaming took my mind to a whole new world. Transporting me to different places and going through different conflicts. So, definitely always dream while you’re awake because seeing where those dreams can take you can lead you to an amazing story to tell.

  17. I think The quote “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake” is very true. I think this because when you’re writing a story you try to think what you want to write about and try to draw a picture in your head. Therefore, that picture you are created in you head is like dreaming while you write. If you create a picture and dream while you write I believe that you will understand what you're writing about a lot better. You will also have more detailed description on what you are writing about. If you just write and don't picture or “Dream” while you are writing your writing can often tend to not make sense. Kids like to rush their writing and not really put much thought into it, but when if and when they proofread it they will see how many mistakes they make when they rush. I know this because I have been guilty of doing the same thing, because I don't like writing at all so I try to rush and get it over with. Then when I have a peer read my paper they show me all the silly mistakes I made. I also see silly mistakes from rushing when I read other people's paper. This why it takes authors so long to write stories, because they put a lot of thought in their writing. They don't only try to create pictures in their heads, they also try to create pictures in the reader's head. I know that authors “dream” while they write, and kids would too.

  18. Aimee Bender once said the quote, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.” This quote means that whenever you write, your thinking out loud on paper. Your writing the ideas or dreams that come in your head. The definition of a story is an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment. Your imagination is very important when writing. It gives a reason for someone to read your work. If your story has no imagination it won't be interesting. So, you need to be able to make things up from your imagination, to make your story more interesting. After writing my short story, the quote “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake,” makes more sense. This quote shows that while I was writing I was using my imagination to write every word. The story was “my dreams on paper” and it’s my opinion on what I believe is good or right. Many people will think different about my paper. Some things they might think is, that my story is really boring and not interesting. While others
might think thats its really fun and really good story. This is what people believe as their opinion of my story. It matters what your dreams are that will make someone interested in what you are writing. The most important thing to remember is to write down whatever comes to mind, because it could end up being a really good writing. Every idea is a good idea, and it could be whatever you dream of.

  19. What I think the quote “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake” by Aimee Bender means i that when you write your story, you have yourself dream as your writing it. When you’re writing it, you go into your imaginary world, making you seem as if you are in your story. When this happens, you feel as if you are dreaming, and you write that dream down creating a story for others to enjoy. This quote is true because as I was writing my story, it felt as if i were in the story, being in the woods, lost, hoping for an escape. My ideas for my story also kept coming to me, making it seem like a dream since I seemed to know what would happen again. You begin to lose thought of what's going on around you, and just let your mind go off to the imaginary world just like how when you sleep, you don’t feel anything and just have a dream that creates a story in your mind. This happened to me when i was peer reviewing other's stories because I just let my mind go off and feel as if i’m in their story. You feel as if you are the main character, having all those emotions and feeling and the problem in your way that they face. Whenever you’re writing or reading someone else's story, you feel as if this is a dream in your head. You feel everything that the main character feels, and you make adjustments to fix certain aspects in the story. When you dream, you fix things that don’t seem right so you can be comfortable in your dream. This is exactly what a writer does, because they think of what they’ll write down, which makes them feel as if they’re in a dream, since it makes them feel as if they are the characters in the story.

  20. Aimee Bender once said, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake.” I agree with this quote. This means that you input things you wish you could do or wish would happen into the story. People always want excitement in their life. People are always putting the things they want most in life or to happen in their stories. It makes writing that more interesting. It what inspires a lot of writers to do what they do. It gets them rolling through a story. They come up with idea after idea, making the story better and better. As the story goes on their creative process gets even bigger. And by the end you want more than what you started with because you have explored multiple things just by writing a story. If people, authors specifically, did not write down their dreams and wants, then there would be less books, less author's, less everything with writing. Our dreams and wants are the things that inspire us. They are the motivation into writing stories, and they are the reason we have good stories, and so many of them. Imagine having a book with no excitement. No nothing. That would make to be a pretty boring book if nothing ever juicy happens. So yes I agree with this quote. What backs it up even more is that Aimee Bender is a writer. She has a hands on experience with this and definitely knows. Who else would know better than a writer who does this exact same thing as the quote states. No one I can think of.

  21. After writing my short story and peer editing others, I think this quote, “As a writer you ask yourself to dream while awake” said by Aimee Bender is true because you dream to create what you write. Your dreaming because you’re not writing about what’s happening; you’re writing about your imagination. Your imagination is like a dream. When you write, you could think of anything you could possibly imagine. You could exceed beyond your limitations, people’s expectations, and think outside the box. It can be as wild or as weird as you want it to be and you let your imagination run free, just as a dream would do when you’re sleeping. It doesn’t even have to be a story, you could write for different purposes. Basically you have complete creative freedom when writing with no limits and that's what makes it so much like a dream, except for the fact you’re awake. When I peer edited, I saw how people took their ideas and imagination and used it in they way they wanted in their short story, just as I also did. Not only are we allowing ourselves “to dream while awake,” writing is such a great form of self expression and a creative outlet for anyone even if you aren’t good at it. Being able to express yourself through writing is a wonderful feeling even if you’re writing something to get off your chest. Part of it could be challenging yourself and see how far you could go with your writing and try to come up with something that is absolutely mind boggling. So next time your writing, think of all the posiblities you would see in a dream.

I don't think a lot of people think of it that way and they should since writing is a great way to escape reality.
