  1. Once, a man named Ernest Hemingway said some very wise words. Those words were: “The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable: they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed.” This is a very deep quote and for some, hard to decipher. I will try my hardest though, to do it. In a nutshell, he is basically saying that the best people in this world we live in have a feeling for beauty (they can feel love). That’s the first part. The next part is that those people also have the will to take risks in life, and also tell the truth. The very last part is that those same great people, ironically, become vulnerable because of that, and they are many times hurt emotionally or even completely messed up. He’s saying that even though people in this world are completely correct, and make lives for others great, and they are great human beings, sadly, people will always take advantage of those people. He’s saying that everyone in this world had those values, the world would be a great place. A character that relates to this quote that we’ve read about this year is Tom Robinson, from How to Kill a Mockingbird. He was a kind man who had a feeling for beauty, took risks, told the truth, and was just a nice man. He felt bad for a white woman. And look what happened. Yet, Bob Ewell's daughter, Mayella, tried to take advantage of him, same with Mr. Ewell. He beat Mayella, then took advantage of Tom. I know it’s not the best example, but that’s all I could come up with.
