Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

  1. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I think this quote means that you don’t have to follow where other people go. You should do what you dream to not what other people tell you to. Sure, sometimes you should do what other people tell you to, but when you have a choice in the matter you should do what you want to. I can relate to this quote because I have given this advice and I have needed to follow it. When I first started the 7th grade all I wanted to do was fit in. I did whatever anybody told me to solely because I wanted to be just like everybody else. Again in 8th grade, I wore what my “friends told” me to wear and I did what they told me to do. I also had to give this advice to my little sister. She was doing whatever my little brother was doing. It was like she was his clone. If he told her to go and eat some disgusting concoction he made she would do it. It got to a certain point where she was paying to play with her. At that point I said that that was enough. I sat her down and told her that he was just using her to pay for his lunch. At first she was a little hesitant to believe me. Then I told her to just ask him to play. He said that he wouldn’t play with her until he got his money.

    1. That is true! you should never be a follower or dreamer of someone else's path, you should always listen to options and ideas yes. but, you should always do or figure out you're own path not follow other peoples unless you really enjoy that so stick to what you believe in, in a nut-shell.

  2. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

To me this quote means, that when you are choosing what you will do for the rest of you're life don't just do what everyone else is doing. What I mean by this is, don't just go for the goal that you think is the best like being a Cop, Doctor, Military Man/Woman. Do something that not everyone is doing, if you are going to choose a path don't just go with a normal paying position for that job. What I mean/ what Ralph Waldo Emerson means is don't just join the military and go enlisted. So, if you are going to join the military you should not just go for the regular job, do what you want or like go to college and master that thing you are good at and consider it as a occupation in the military, because there are so many options in the military. For me I think that Mr. Emerson means well if you're going to take the military path do what you think you will enjoy and want to do, like for me I have so many things I want to do in the military. What I want to do in the military is either a(an) Anti Piracy Unit for the U.S. NAVY or I will do Computer Graphic Arts/ Gaming Computer Graphic Design. So those are different then just doing something that a path everyone chooses or thinks about, like when you ask someone, "What do you want to do in the military?" and they only tell you the branch of the military they want to join and not the job then well they are probably just going with that normal path. In my opinion why would you join something that gives you so many opportunities to just shoot guns, to me there is no point! So, that is why you should always look for something new, a new path something different!

  3. I completely agree with you! You should be able to do whatever you want to. There are too many people who follow down the path that everybody else goes down. people should learn to make their own path

To me this quote means to me is that don't do something that other people did. Also that you should do something that no one did before. And let yourself be an example to others who don't want to do the same as others do. In my own life I can relate to this quote is when everyone was choosing what class to get for school. Everyone was choosing the same classes to be together. And I didn't want to be with the people I know. I didn't know why I was thinking this. But I was just going with it. So while everyone was choosing easy classes I choose a unique one . And I haven't regret it yet. So you should always look do something new in your life or make your own path. You can go the path everyone is going or go by yourself on a path that no one knows where it goes.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said do not follow where the path may lead. go instead where there is no path and leave a trail means a lot to me. like you should always go to the beat of your own drum. and don't be afraid to be yourself.

  6. I think Ralph Waldo Emerson was trying to say be yourself and not to follow in someone elses foot steps. Be who you want to be and try to achive your goals your own way. If your inspired by someone don't try to follow in his or her footsteps, but try to make your own. Follow them by making your own path and choices. If you make your own path and be that inspiration you will inspire people to follow you and then they will make there own path. Its like will you follow the path of failing school or make your own make path and try hard to get good grades and not fail. To make your own trail you have to work for it, because it wont just be given to you. This quote relates to me when last year in language arts we were doing a project. You could pick between 3 essay, they were about random quotes. Every body picked the first two because they were the shortest the easiest. Then I picked the third because I wanted a challenge and because nobody else picked the third, At the end I got a hundred because she awarded me because I was the only one who picked the third.
